The whole thing is such a cop-out.
Tali's face, the stargazer scene with the desktop wallpaper, the entire ending...all show signs of incredible laziness and being rushed. I blame EA for this, but also blame Bioware for not growing some balls and being honest. Instead, they hide behind this BS and "artistic integrity". The way they are handling this, by being vague as hell around every corner...shows they have no integrity.

I'm getting really sick of seeing them use "artistic vision" to explain everything!

See, I just don't get some people. This was as clear a sign of laziness as you can possibly get. From the fact that the picture was so lightly altered, to the incorrect finger structure, to the fact that she is out of her f**king suit. Yet some people don't see it as a reason to challenge bioware. Some people would accept anything thrown at them. It is because of such people Casey and Mac could thought it was ok to not have an investigate option in the starbrat dialogue. It is you people that are the problem with this community

I caught the live blog from Kotaku about the Bioware Pax panel and I was not impressed to their answer when they brough up Tali's face. Specifically:
"2.) We often use source material, source art,
for MANY things withing the game -- wanted it to be photorealistic, high
fidelity, correct color -- as close to a picture as possible. Pored
through thousands of images to combine extisting image and artistic
vision to create Tali's face "
Okay, using source material. Like the Samara and Miranda models where you made a 3D image of their faces and imported them into Mass Efffect? No, instead you used a stock photograph and photoshopped it. This is why were unhappy with this. Instead of doing what you always did, which was model your characters off of people where it was artistictly available to do so (Shepard, Miranda, Samara etc.) you found a picture, changed the coloring on it and photoshopped the actress in it to look alien.
One of the reasons we're unhappy is the "job half finished" attitude we are getting from you. What you should have done is found the model, used the same 3D imaging software you used before and copied her face. Then adjusted it in game and then you should have made the picture which would have been fine!

I like that they have hair since there are so many bald species, as you mentioned. It was just how thick it was, and how much of it that bothered me.OchreJelly wrote...

It's the luscious hair that really gets to me. Just doesn't seem right for Quarians to have hair like that under their helmets...
If anything, if it's human-like hair, it'd be short-cut hair. Assuming they had it before exodus, 300 years is not enough for an evolutionary shift causing them to not have hair at all. Though I could see them tying it in a bun, tail or something compact so that's probably the case.
Not really a big deal logistically, but those are the kinds of things concept-art and lore are supposed to cover. o/
In reality it was probably just glossed over because the photo has hair, and they didn't want another asari or drell. Most of the other races don't have hair at all.
EDIT: In addition to the above concepts, there was another set of possible quarian sketches along with some asari:

the sad part is that they went through all the effort to put in Jessica Chobot/Snooki's mug in the game but didn't do so for one of the most beloved and iconic character of the game.
I'd be perfectly happy with Allers having a 3d model of a paper bag for a head in exchange for Tali's face to be in game, animations and all.

I would just like to point out that Tali has mentioned in both ME1 and ME3 that it would effectively be impossible for that picture to have been taken.
In ME1 - Tali states that the reason why they wear the suits isn't because they are "off their home world". They wear them because they've had to live in a completely sterile environment for the last 300 years on the flotilla. Without bacterial defenses to jump start their immune systems they essentially grow up without one. Thus, the suits.
In ME3 - When you take back RANNOCH, Tali states that it would be MANY MANY MANY YEARS before they could survive without their suits. This revelation prompts her to say "but until then, I can have this" and she takes off her mask.
Tali makes reference in ME1 that the could have gone and attempted to settle on another world, but they were devoted to retaking Rannoch no matter how long it took.
The Quarians would have to wait years for their bodies to physiologically acclimate to an open ecosystem. The picture is impossible.
