One thing that allways struck me as kind of wierd. Why don't quarians are use helmets with tranparent visors?

I mean yeah BW never intended to show the Quarians faces but still don't think that was ever explained...

I chalk it up to privacy.

Think about it.  Onboard the incredibly crowded flotilla, with no real prviacy or anything to call your own...all the quarians really have as their own "Home" is th einside of their suit.  Its the equivalent to having tinted windows.  It's just a kind of "wall" to sepearte the outside world from the inside of their suit.  psychological thing, mostly.  Like how people with tinted sunglasses enjoy not having to make direct eye contact with people.

At least she's attractive; though not very "Tali," to me. I could see it as a possible younger Shala, but she's too "Femme fatale," for it to be our awkward techy.

It almost seemed to me like the scene on Rannoch where she takes off her mask was cut... but then I could be wrong. Just felt very sudden and abrupt to shift the camera angles the way they did.

I don't mind the IDEA of the photo. I'm not really happy with how it was executed. I mean, I have absolutely no artistic talent whatsoever, but I could have managed to make the hand look correct. Cut the middle finger, the pinky, and the hand underneath the pinky to narrow it the hand to the appropriate width. Leave the ring finger as it is. Voila. Better photoshop job in less than five minutes.

Here's where I go try my hand (pun not intended? :P) at paint to see how miserably I fail at it. haha

EDIT:  Okay, so it took me about 15 minutes (sans GF interruptions) to do this.  It shows how incredibly BAD I am at any kind of art.  I did this in MS Paint, FFS.  It also shows that, in the right hands (omg the bad puns are flying tonight!), the picture could have been perfect.  Because, seriously... if *I* can get the hand right in Paint...

Also, I'm not trying to be a wanker about the whole deal. I just want to illustrate that the time put in on it wasn't commensurate with what SHOULD have been put in on it.
Could have done w/o Allers and put the resources used on her somewhere else, imo.

Her hand. Her hand was the worst. They just took a human hand and cut it in half. What the hell, BioWare.

I don't get why if they were going to reveal it they didn't go all the way with an in game face model. Either do it or don't. Or if you want to reveal the Quarians but not the mystery behind Tali show a random Quarian without their mask on Rannoch. Maybe when you're rescuing the Admiral the dieing Quarian asks for help taking his helmet off before he dies.

Tali's face is just another example of something that appears out of place in the ME universe, and it makes no sense to show it in 3. You never see what a quarian looks like, even when viewing the geth memories (even if you had a love affair with Tali in ME2). The camera always pans away, or has a 'poor' angle when you'd see her face. It also happens to be one of those cases that its better if you imagine it, instead of seeing it, kind of like Howard's Mom from the Big Bang Theory.

If they wanted to show you Tali's face they had plenty of opportunity to do it, and do it correctly (an in game model) instead you get a picture of a three fingered human. I mean asari are the most human looking of all the aliens (and were designed to be as such the green moon princesses or what ever from Star Trek), and at least they had the decency to have blue skin and skin flaps for hair. Having syndactyly doesn't constitute being an alien.

The quarian unmasked, just feels lazy. "lets just make it a human face" ... "but don't forget its actually a quarian, so don't forget to throw a hand in there so we know it isn't a human."

This version of the quarian had no where the work up of any of the other races as far as concept art goes (just look through any of the "art of mass effect books"), so either they should have left well enough alone and gone with there teasing the audience (aka never seeing what a quarian looks like) or they should have spent some time and effort creating concept art and making a model.

That hand is hilarious. All they did was lop off the ring finger and pinky.

I caught the live blog from Kotaku about the Bioware Pax panel and I was not impressed to their answer when they brough up Tali's face. Specifically:

"2.) We often use source material, source art,
for MANY things withing the game -- wanted it to be photorealistic, high
fidelity, correct color -- as close to a picture as possible. Pored
through thousands of images to combine extisting image and artistic
vision to create Tali's face "

I don't even...

Who said that?  That is the most baldfaced lie I've ever heard anyone say about anything in my life.

"Photorealistic"?  What does "correct color" even mean?  Thousands of images?  Artistic vision?  If this is a legit Bioware PAX response...

They even had one of the ators there dressed up as her character, Semara.

I just wanted to clarify that it was Rana McNear's initiative to do so and for an absolutely great cause to boot.  Just wanted to make sure she gets full credit for the idea.

I didnt realize she did that on her own.  That's awesome :)

oh it's legit alright, they literally sat there and told the fans all of that. Talk about getting caught red handed and trying to lie your way out of it, what are they up to?!

The whole thing is such a cop-out.

Tali's face, the stargazer scene with the desktop wallpaper, the entire ending...all show signs of incredible laziness and being rushed. I blame EA for this, but also blame Bioware for not growing some balls and being honest. Instead, they hide behind this BS and "artistic integrity". The way they are handling this, by being vague as hell around every corner...shows they have no integrity.

Desktop wallpaper?? I hadnt heard about this.  Did they just use a wallpaper or something?

WOW, I just saw this as I was reading this whole thread.  This plus re-reading last years ME3 GameInformer article makes me so angy it hurts... :pinched: I guess it is ok to outsource your artwork department to Google Image search.

I don't get it... don't they have artists to, you know, design such things? They were, apparently, able to design space ninjas from scratch... guess you need a completely different approach when it comes to Tali

PR damage controlled response for "we ran out of time."

They'd have been much better off just saying "our bad, we'll patch it" instead of trying to BS us out of it.

They also used an image from Nasa as a background for the view from the citadel at earth. They just flipped it.

At some time I remember Liz Sroka saying in an interview that she liked the mystery behind Tali, so maybe she didn't really like the idea of revealing Tali's face to begin with.
