2: Miranda
3: Javik with James in close second. Both characters are just boring as hell.

ME2 Liara, thought I lost her but they shoved her down my throat with the DLC.
ME3 Liara, milquetoast shadow broker that only showed up in cutscenes and mandatory missions, which seemed to be most of them. Seriously I have to use her to get Javik, Garrus, EDI's body, and save Thessia?

This is all your fault. Funny thing about DLC, you don't have to play it.The Glen wrote...

In ME1 i could have said, dont come!
But in ME3 there is not really chance to do that, Shepard just auto talks <_<

To be fair... she IS an archaeologist so I think she's best for getting Javik. You only need her for a second with Garrus and Mars is at the very beginning where you'd only otherwise have JAMES (whom I dislike).
I can see people who didn't like her getting annoyed but every character has a mission where you have to use them and tbh she hardly speaks to you between genophage-thessia.
I love Liara so meh

Jacob
Vega
Based on character developement and level of uselessness (once I aquired Carnage, Vega never left the Normandy. The other two didn't even have that.)

ME2: Jacob, not bad but he didn't fit in with my band o' freaks
ME3: Tali, get her too late and she's useless in combat

Tali in all three. She's really only useful for taking down synthetics, while the other squadmates can do synthetics or organics.
Story:
ME1- Liara. She was like an obsessive ex girlfriend.
ME2- Tali. I don't like her at all and it was weird when she started flirting with my Femshep.
ME3- Vega. I like him but I feel like he was taking Grunt's/Wrex's place. I would've preferred an established character on my squad.

1) Kaidan
2) Jacob
3) James (I would say Kaidan again, but I killed him in ME1)

ME2: Jacob. He tried too hard NOT to be friendly, and that mixed with FemShep's voice while talking to him made him easy not to like.
ME3: Tali. At least she has more to say, and she has become more mature, but she still doesn't click with me. Probably due to my dislike for the Quarian drama as a whole, and she tends to come up with a LOT of lame excuses for her people.
And I'll be hanging out in the corner with my two favorite squadmates having tea. If anyone wants to drop by, Kaidan, Ashley, and I always love having extra guests for tea time!

ME1 : Kaidan & Ashley
ME2 : Jack
ME3 : Ashley, EDI
Gameplay :
ME1 : I generally completed the three bars to have a balanced crew so I pretty much used them all indiscriminately.
ME2 : The rock/paper/scissor protection game made any squad-mates without Overload, Incinerate or Warp useless to me. I generally Use Garrus + Miranda when mercenaries and Geth are involved (anti Shield), Mordin & Miranda when the blood pack is there (anti Armor) and Thane & Miranda against the collectors as they both have warp who eats through both Armor and Barriers.
ME3 : only used Garrus & Liara (engineer playthrough gave me another Overload and a Warp, also singularity is a phenomenal field control tool).

I never took him anywhere. I didn't think he was all that useful honestly. His tech skills weren't as good as Tali's and his biotics weren't as good as Liara's. I always felt that just about anyone else was a better choice. Wrex, Garrus, Liara, and Tali all had more to offer. I liked the character well enough, but just didn't like taking him on missions.
Mass Effect 2 - Jacob Taylor
Useless. Totally useless. Miranda, Jack, and Samara all had much better skills as a biotic. Thane was just as good as Jacob but I found his weapon's proficiencies more useful. Jack was the stronger biotic and though she had the same weapons skills as Jacob, she gave you squad warp ammunition. There was always a better choice and his personality was just so damned bland. I also found his on mission dialog to be annoying as hell.
Mass Effect 3 - EDI
While I like the character, she just seems to get dropped fast by virtually any enemy. She ends up being a waste of medigel in a fight. She's so useless I might as well have proceeded with only one squad member. In short I always felt that everyone else or any other combination of squad mates were a much better choice.

You never have to use Javik, Garrus is only required for like, half of Menae I think, then everyone else gets like one required mission. None of them compare to how much the game made us use Liara.Grimwick wrote...
