I disagree she is really helpful in ME3 and in ME2 I used her for energy drain.. it's pretty win on Insanity.

ME1 - Tali. Sweet, but the very definition of a walking codex. Plus she brings up bad memories of the Geth Incursions assignment, which is always just tortuous for me. I hate that mission.
ME2 - Jacob. I never liked his power set, so I rarely used him in combat. And on the Normandy, I rarely talked to him because of femShep. He may be an interesting character, I've just never gotten past the pushy voice acting and dull combat skills to see.
ME3 - Ashley. I loved her in ME1 and she got the biggest emotional response from me during ME2, so I don't know what happened. She felt really subdued or icy in ME3. Hard to explain, but like she wasn't really there.

don't forget Mars. And her coming up to your cabin constantly.

To be fair... she IS an archaeologist so I think she's best for getting Javik. You only need her for a second with Garrus and Mars is at the very beginning where you'd only otherwise have JAMES (whom I dislike).

I can see people who didn't like her getting annoyed but every character has a mission where you have to use them and tbh she hardly speaks to you between genophage-thessia.

I love Liara so meh 

Liara is one of my favorite characters in Mass Effect so I never considered her use a problem. In fact I felt cheated without the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC in ME2. Also I typically play a soldier class Shepard and therefore need a biotic for dealing with certain enemy types more easily. In Mass Effect 3 my only other choice is Javik.

Mass Effect 1: Ashley (Kadin died).
Mass Effect 2: Mordin, but I liked him a lot more in Mass Effect 3 as a character becuase of how much more dynamic he was. 
Mass Effect 3: Tie between Vega and Ashley. Hated both of them.

ME3: I would probably say James or Garrus, but I did like both of them, James was a meathead sure but he worked in the role (New to the whole thing so he was the voice for newbies), and I never really liked Garrus, I didn't hate him I just never grew to give a damn about him.

Mass Effect 1 - Ashley, no doubt. Useless in combat, racist, xenophobe, religious.
Mass Effect 2 - Jacob. Couldn't be more boring.
Mass Effect 3 - EDI. Love the character, but there was no need for THAT.

Tali. Total baggage from ME1 through 3. You only needed her in ME1 if you didn't learn tech skills, other than that she's been completely useless.
