I am asking this just for fun and because I seem to have had different experiences on this level.  All on insanity...

My first game I was a soldier and only killed 2 brutes then ran and hit the buttons.  I think there were still 4 or 5 tooling around.

So NG+ Soldier I think there were 5 before the first hammer, and then one straggler.  I killed them all and no more showed up.  I even stood around and walked leisurely to the next hammer and none showed up.

Import Engineer... seems like there ended up being more than 10.  I decided to just hit the button.

New character Infiltrator.  Again, I wanted to kill them all but it seemed like it went into infinite spawn mode.  So I gave up and just hit the button.

Import Sentinel: this played out like the first Soldier... I killed 5, no more showed up, walked to first button.  Then there was a last one, which I killed and that was that.

Import Vanguard.  I decided to try it a couple of different times.  One I had 6 total, one had 10 before the first hammers (and I ran out of ammo to boot), another had 8 before the first hammer, and the last I got glitched (Liara disappeared, sound went out and had to restart).  Went back to look at the vids to get the real number counts.

So anyone know the deal with the spawn points?

Earlier in the mission I seemed to get a glitch at the first Bute (after you come out of the catacombs) where it spawned the Brute twice (complete with the initial squad dialogue playing over the "I think we got them all" from killing the identical wave before that).

Most I had milling around was I think 5 or six, but then I was running like hell for the hammers (rather than engaging them) and didn't exactly stop to count.

I've only ever seen three. Then again, I was a Vanguard and I was just using them as shortcuts with Charge.

Least I have seen is 3, most I have seen is 5.

I think they spawn until you hit the hammers. First game I killed about 7 of them. Next game I was smarter and sprinted straight to the hammers without killing any Brutes.

Glad to see this post and thread. I've had some similar discrepancies and was quite puzzled.

First play through, Veteran, around five.

Second play through, insanity, had to of been more than ten, lol. Possible heat of the moment though.

Yeah I had this as well, every time since my first playthrough. (though not on my first)

I had 8 show up on me, 4 on both hammers, I thought you had to fight them so, all my ammo and 14 Brutes later I had realized that it was infinite spawn for me lol. Had to reload and just ran past them then.

I hated fighting three of those things at once while the Reaper is stepping on you. First time that happened I thought it was cool, then I was like "&%$#@ Reaper, stop stepping on me!!"

Also curious about this. Read somewhere that it is supposed to be infinite, but both times I've played that part I've killed them until there was none left. Can't have been more than ~7.

I dunno how u can kill 5+ brutes in that part???? Im not that nice I guess, on my first playthru, luckily I was the infiltrator so after the 3rd time dying trying to kill them, I just said the heck with it and did a "cloak n dash"....

I don't think there were more than 3 at the same time, and since there were no shooting enemies I basically just ran around spamming powers.

I killed 5 on my Insanity run. 3 right away, then hit a hammer. Then 2 more pop down so i killed them, then hit the final hammer. Didn't even think to just skip um LoL.

I killed around 10, a lvl 60 squad with Particle Rifle X and modified magazine/barrel damage V upgrades and Incendiary ammo melted 3 of them in 6 seconds. This was on Insanity new game+

I thought I had six on my Insanity run, but now that you mention it... I died once, and I'm pretty sure at that point I'd counted more than six.

This is what I thought. I killed about six on my Normal playthrough but was under the impression that they'd keep spawning until you completed the level. Then on Insanity I just sprinted straight past them. Bit shocked that it worked.

i tested it, and if you kill the first 2, go backwards towards the little cliff you jump off to get to that area, then go back, they respawn. did this 4 times then said the hell with it.

No idea. I killed at least three, saw two more coming at me, said **** this and just sprinted for the switches.

i am i soldier and hell i killed about 7 of them and they were still coming, after those 7 there were about 5 of them left

Just did this on Insanity as my Vanguard. My GOD! They just kept coming and coming. I lost count after about 12 kills and then I finally got overwhelmed.
