just trying to wrap my head around why everyone seems to hate Allers, can someone explain it to me

Covered in other thread, but diana allers is seen (somewhat justifiably too) as wasted development resources that could have gone into things like... i dunno.... the ending. Or tali's face. The same applies to multiplayer as well.

Haha hate is a strong word. Maybe dislike. And more for what she might represent than anything. Jessica Chobot, the face model & VA behind Allers, works for IGN.

Also a lot of people might have preferred Emily Wong over her.  Myself included.

I don't like or follow IGN so I had no idea who Jessica Chobot was. I found Allers to be a waste of space, would have rather had either one of the reports (can't recall there names).
Over all I see it as major conflict of interest.

I wasn't aware of the whole marketing thing, so I just took her unbiased.

She was a character. She did interviews, and while she never got to match Khalisah in their quantity, they were okay.
I don't know what do you have against her either.

Oh look another one. Basically with so much else in the game that was rushed, cut, or done half-assed due to time and resource constraints we're left wondering why time and resources were devoted to pandering to IGN(I'm sure the great review and vehement attacks on people who didn't like the ending were completely coincidental). If they were just hung up on the idea of an embedded journalist there was an established and generally liked journalist from previous games available that they instead chose to kill of via twitter.

 Crap voice actress and obviously shoehorned in to get a few more buys from Chobot fanboys. Should have put pretty much anyone else on the ship instead of her. Artistic integrity my ass.

Having never met Chobot on anything but a screen, I won't judge her personally, but damn, she is no voice actor.

And her character is annoying. And so is she, from what I've seen/heard from her in various forms of media. She may be a sweetheart in person, so I don't hate her for what she does. But I do not like Allers.

I dodn't have any complaints against the voice acting, will agree that the dress they put her in looked crap, but then I thought the same of femshep's dress in ME2, Bioware just don't do dresses!

Tali fans are annoyed that she got an in-game model, while Tali's face is just a picture. About 90% of the annoyance over Tali's face would be gone if we actually saw her face in the model.
For everyone else, there's the fact that she's fairly obvious product placement for IGN. Not to mention the fact that we already have two previously established reporter characters that could've easily taken her place. Remember Emily Wong and the ever-punchable Khalisah Bint Sinan Al-Jilani?

Is there anything that Allers did that they couldn't do, besides annoy the fanbase?

Something about endorsement, waste of resources and about horny nerds getting the chance to bed this "hot" IGN presenter, I don't know. That's what I've heard floating around the forums anyway. I personally didn't have anything against the woman at all, I'm just surprised they chose a new NPC when we clearly had 2 other reporters that had history and were well suited for the role, feels like they kind of pulled a "You've had this childhood toy for a long time now, we'll just take that away and give you this new one, you'll get used to it!" sort of thing. Just my opinion...if this doesn't make sense it's because I'm tired xD

I've said this before, Bioware does not carry around a jar of resources. Removing a character who had 5 minutes spent on her character model will not make a better ending.

But you were at least given the option to punch Al-Jilani, so she was intended to annoy.
