woulda been great scene. biowares artistic integrity kept them from putting it in because they didnt want to be accused of saying there is no afterlife and pissing alot of people off.

damn that artistic integrity... first it ruins the endings, now this... when will its madness stop??

I've always wondered why they didn't do much of anything with the whole back from the dead thing. That's a pretty big deal, really. And Ashley is right, you'd think everyone would ask Shepard since it's one of the biggest questions of all time.

This is the type of thing that would actually lead to interesting speculation. Shepard not remembering anything during that time would give people something to wonder. Maybe there is nothing, but maybe we just aren't meant to know. Stuff like that is where speculation would be ok.

Wow ok.

You know what, I had imagined that exact kind of question coming from Liara in my own head canon. In some of my own scripts, I have Liara asking Shepard questions about human religions coming from an earlier discussion about Ashley (my canon Shepard saved Kaidan on Virmire and Ashley died of course). Liara knew that Ashley was a religious person, and she (Liara) is curious, she wants to know what Shepard specifically thought of religion in general.

After some time during the discussion Liara does come up with the question: « Tell me, Shepard, do you remember anything from before you woke up at the Cerberus labs? », my Shepard replies « I remember being spaced out, air leaking out of my helmet, lots of pain and couldn't breath, I was panicking... », then Liara asks « My mother always spoke about a supposed light, I think humans also refer to something similar when they speak of near-death experiences », to which Shepard replies « I can't remember anything about a light but... it's vague, I'm not sure, I think I heard voices, it might have been the personnel at the Cerberus labs »

Anyway, I find it amazing that out of coincidence I made a discussion around the same subject (after-life, what Shepard saw or can remember, etc). I guess that fan-fiction isn't necessarily always that far from what the writer(s) at BioWare can sometimes think about. In any case, they should have kept that scene.

There is no excuse for not having this scene in the game. Put it back in there Bioware, and if I hear anything about a "line budget" im gonna puke.

Not at all... tweet Weekes and politely ask him to reinsert the scene!

This was probably supposed to be Ash's equivalent to Liara's Time Capsule and Vega's N7 scenes, where they came up to your cabin to talk to you in private. Shame that it got cut, since I was disappointed with her interaction once she came back on the ship.

Wow. That was a great scene. I would've enjoyed that in game. I'm glad I at least got to see it, here.

I can only imagine how incredible this game would've been with the resources to continue development until Q4 of 2012.

Ash, Liara, James, heck EDI could have asked that it would still have been awesome.

Works best for Ash because she has almost no Normandy dialogue atm anyway.

It was a huge discredit to Ashley and Shepard not to have this scene in the game. Why take away something like this that has real value?.

Bioware obviously goes out of its way to avoid these questions, at least in ME. And it's understandable --- some people still think of Ashley as a fundemalist wackjob because she said she believed in God. Even talking about the issue is a no-win game for them.

Why did they cut such a great scene?
Really gives a great insight into the Shepard character.

Someone was on the weed I think when they cut that...

Another missed opportunity in this game. And some more proof that they were rushed....

What an amazing scene. More artistic than the ending....

WHY. WOULD THEY CUT THIS.

RELIGION RAGE?!

It's seriously the most in-depth Shepard gets about himself, ever, in the trilogy. It's also great insight on Ash's character (makes sense as she's quite religious), and her acceptance of Shepard as he is now. That last line literally gave me chills.

DAMNIT. PLEASE PUT IT BACK IN! EXTENDED CUTS CAN GO IN PLACES OTHER THAN THE ENDING.

yeah I can see why they cut it...first it does cut to the core of religon and it's not really for Bioware to say what somebody who died really saw or not. I would of liked the scene but I can see why they went away from it.

edit: I also don't think they wanted to have Ash questioning her beliefs

I think the scene takes great pains not to make a statement on religion one way or another. He says he can't remember and they both conclude Ash won't get any answer from this example.
