You are raising thousands of dollars for what exactly?

For a protest against a video game?

How about this. Spend all that money and give it to shelters and the like. Not protesting a game over 5 minutes. FFS.

80,000 dollars was raised for charity. Did you forget that?

wich was started how again?

thats right for an ending and dont deny it

when bioware said they wont do one people demanded there money back and if i could id back hand those people who demanded it

Wait.  That seriously happened?  I mean, really?  Yeah, entitled doesn't even begin to describe it.

yea it happened.

i was here for the whole thing

that chairty drive started when someone stated lets raise money for sick kids that way bioware can give the fans a new ending

bioware never stated such a thing and people have donated

the few who have donated and got mad over the real news of no official conformation that bioware will do such a thing people asked for that charity to refund them

also you can read about it at penny arcades website and childs play website

That's just misrepresenting facts.
The charity was NOT given to buy an ending, and the majority - the vast majority - of donators said "thank you" and "goodbye". Do not lie. There are articles that prove me right.

You're not looking at the big picture. You're looking at just the billboard. Like it's been stated it, this is more about sending a message, and you damn right a message will be made if enough people can pull this off. To do something like this after BioWare has decided to try and fix this issue has the potential for them to draw it back, not do anything at all. And it's not like BioWare's eyes aren't the only eyes looking at this. Forbes obviously has been paying attention to this. Gaming outlets, WSJ, NYT, etc. EA/BioWare has the opportunity to make things better for the majority, but this movement is defacing any and everything that they're trying to do.

I'm looking it, I still fail to see how this message can threaten the future of gaming, because, people will keep on gaming no matter what the f*ck we put in a billboard, and somebody have to develop the games for these people to play. You are really over your head, hahaha seriously, you think game companies will stop making games?

And you're fooling yourself if you think the Extending Cut DLC will fix anything, they already say they will not, starchild stays, the 3 flavours of the same ending stays, they might try to explain it. But that isn't fixing it.

Holy crow, man. If you think I'm not spending my money wisely, then you're clearly not spending your time wisely. Looking for conversations about something you hate hearing about? That's just a sad existence.

whoops..my bad..i thought you wanted others to pay for this scheme.

if its just you paying then i am all for it.

i thought you were going to just setup a fund for others to waste thier money

Hold that

>Kotaku

Ahaha. Ahahahaha. Hah. Nobody takes them seriously Kotaku is the...Kotaku of the gaming world. Or aptly compared to Fox News.

I think how out of hand this has gotten is truely testimont to just how badly Bioware f'd up. I congratulate them in their success at making a 'memorable' ending.

I have mixed feelings towards this. On one hand, the Retaker in me wants to support it and hope that EA/BW and other companies listen and take note that if they try to pull shenanigans, gamers will not take it lying down.

On the other hand, I also feel like this is going too far. A couple of weeks ago someone suggested taking that billboard in front of Bioware (not sure if he/she's from HTL too but someone did suggest this weeks before), I thought it was a good idea but that was before the EC announcement. I'm still skeptical about how it'll clarify things but don't you think it'd be better if we just wait and see? If you don't like it then yeah, give them hell.

Future of gaming? why would a billboard threaten the future of gaming? you're really going off the tangent with such wild assumptions. This backlash is because the people that loves Mass Effect, it wouldn't have happened with other game, is what you get for trashing the ending of a superb franchise. Even If this billboard makes EA to fall and die then other company would take its place, we aren't soiling the ground with salt.
In any case, EA itself is the one threatening the future of gaming, the rushed development of ME3 proves it.

It threatens gaming in two ways. First, gamers are still stereotyped as socially inept, loveless losers living in their parents' basement. If this billboard thing happens, that stereotype will be cemented forever. Secondly, BioWare and other developers may just go, "okay we just won't do games like that anymore.", and e

How so?
A billboard isn't exactly a move a bunch of "introverted basement dwellers" would make.
And, ignoring their fans is just plain bad business, and if there's one thing you can count on EA for, it's to make a buck.

I was the one that suggested it, and in researching various billboard and ad agencies, I found out it wasn't an option. The one in question is actually not available until october, and in edmonton, they only allow you to take out less than 17 ads in special circumstances (like buying a year's worth), so here we are.

This is some pretty serious 'slippery slope fallacy' argument. You have no proof of that conclusion, really I think this is a good thing for gaming. It shows that developers can no longer ignore their consumers; that people can band together and wont just accept lies and PR tricks. With Kickstarter setting up a variable revolution for gaming on the horizon, this is a beautiful moment for gaming all together.

misinformation huh?

Many fans of the Mass Effect series have been so outraged by the ending of Mass Effect 3, that they have started a movement called ‘Take back Mass Effect 3′ This is an attempt get the developer to release an alternative ending to the game. To raise positive attention for their campaign, they started a charity drive for the benefit of the Child’s Play Charity and so far have raised a fabulous $66,000.00 for the charity, whilst drawing attention to their cause.

“We would like to dispel the perception that we are angry or entitled. We simply wish to express our hope that there could be a different direction for a series we have all grown to love,” the group said in a recent statement.

Initially who would have thought Bioware would have paid any heed to such a campaign and change the whole ending of a game, given the work that would involve, especially after the game has been released. However Bioware have now said on their Facebook page ”We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out,” the statement reads. “At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending.”

So all those Mass Effect 3 fans out there may get their wish after all. Do you think that a developer would go to all the trouble of making an alternative ending at this stage, given all the everything this would entail, writing the story, designing this, getting the voice actors together and the multitude of other work it would take?
