A galactic jukebox that plays songs and teaches Reapers to love.

Either a trap, a screw-up waiting to happen, or something that would take out ALL kinetic barriers on EVERYTHING.

Horrifying loss of life for the Alliance/Council/Etc forces but the Reapers would have been in a far worse position due to sheer numbers on the Combined Forces side.

EDIT: oh, hey, EMS might have actually meant something then! oh well.

I figured it would be a really, really, really big gun, and probably only useable once. Good for taking out a bunch of Reapers hanging out in the same place (like Earth), but the fleets will still have to fight the surviving Reapers conventionally.

I didn't see a logical explanation for how it could destroy Reapers in every system at the same time, for a few reasons:
1: That's just way too easy
2: It wouldn't be a very precise blast to take them all out at once, and I would assume that anything capable of killing a Reaper in another system would kill any non-Reapers in its path also. Yay galactic suicide?

Honestly, I didn't think the solution to the reaper problem would be presented in the second mission(first if we don't count the tutorial). Turns out I was wrong. This made for a pretty boring game. I thought the game would be more like chasing down clues to find a weapon or a plan for one at least for 1/3 of the game or something. I was so bummed out by the cheap plot device that I didn't much care what it would do - destroy the reapers was the obvious answer - but I was absolutely certain it would be underwhelming.

Fire a big ****ing nuke
Also I fancied an ending where it stops ALL indoctrination. Basically those indoctrinated and still partly sane can now be saved, and husks &co become confused and maybe fight the Reapers themselves

My first thoughts were hoping it was a device created by the original creators of the Reapers who rebelled against their plans. A way of disrupting Reaper communication, indoctrination or their ability to harvest in some way. Making them more susceptible to conventional warfare.
I was then hoping this would be used about half way through the game, with the final half of the game being a war of attrition, where choices you made prior really mattered.

I thought it would do pretty much what it did in the Destroy ending; kill Reapers and all their technology.

This, after all we discovered the Reaper code - minus the relay destruction, although i did think the relays would aid in their destruction.

Honestly I thought it would be a dark energy weapon. Something that could help defeat the reapers but at the cost of entire stars dying out to fuel the energy supply needed. I thought it would tie up that whole dark energy point that was prevalent in ME2, like the crucible would have been a way to channel that phenomenon into a directed weapon.

Probably what caused the great rift on Klendagon too... an incomplete crucible could've done that...

As it turns out... it's just a big "reaper off" button. Something we were told WOULDN'T be in th game =/

I figured that it was just some kind of big, Reaper-killing gun that might cause some sort of collateral damage if I didn't get enough people working on it before the endgame.

I thought it would send them into shock similar to that of Nazara's in ME1.

I thought it was a weapon, much like a gun or a virus and that the catalyst was going to be Shepard, much like how Peter, from Fringe, was the Catalyst for the machine that opened up a hole to both universes. And that is how I thought Shepard was going to die.

I thought you could manually control it as a manned gun and start shooting reapers!

First thing I thought of was some sort of an EMP bomb, that would reach the entire galaxy. But I didn't think the mass relays would be sacrificed.

Trusting Liara, that it was a weapon of some sort, I was hoping for a giant death-star cannon that could one-shot every reaper.

I always thought it would have a control area, that only someone like Shepard could activate and then be able to control the whole thing with his thoughts, then he would use it to engage the reapers in battle, it would be more powerful than the harbinger class reapers, it would disable any reaper ship you scored a direct hit on, allowing your WAR ASSETS to rain holy revenge on them as you watch with satisfaction.

Then at the very end after the crucible had taken lots of damage, it would be you vs harbinger...he starts talking s**t as usual and you are like eat this bia***.

Something like that.

I thought it would send out a giant death beam that jumped from Reaper to Reaper across the entire galaxy, destroying them all.

Instead it did this to the Mass Relays ... what the fuuuuuu

I figured it would unlock new possibilities for a character we've never met let alone heard of up until the last few minutes of the game, unleashing an explosion of your very own favorite color choice, ultimately leading to the end of all life regardless of any option you choose.

j/k j/k... Pretty much what the destroy option did, minus blowing up relays.I also expected the "catalyst" to end up being a human.. in this case Shepard. The human spirit.. all that jazz.

Maybe I'd be giving the writers too much credit, but I thought at first that the Crucible was a device with the means to use the Reapers' Indoctrination Process against them, and the Catalyst was some kind of amplification component.

The moment this magic new thing was mentioned, my heart sank. It was an admission that they hadn't planned how to destroy the Reapers when they were writing the other games.

I think I expected it to be some dark energy weapon that only destroyed beings made from/using dark energy (like the Collecters were) which would've meant the reapers.

I thought it would be some kind of trap. It was one random file in the Mars archives that hadn't been for a few decades but suddenly appeared right when we needed it, it took lots and lots of resources that could be used to fight the Reapers, and even with the best minds in the galaxy working on building and deciphering it they STILL couldn't figure out what the heck it was supposed to do. Just seemed too convenient for it to be a real weapon. : /
