I urge the organizers of this that if you guys are going to sleep that you switch this idea to DELIBERATION mode right now because just like when BioWare stayed silent because they were deliberating , they lost fans , so will the support for this movement continue to suffer from this divisive issue .

And again , why bother with a divisive initiative when I SINCERELY KNOW you guys all together can come up with something better and more universally acceptable

Just to quote it again, because I feel it belongs in the OP, and maybe it'll sway some people on how insane this is, but :

This is the logic behind raising $9,000 for a billboard?

Problem: If you make that billboard, it stands for Retake as a whole.
Problem: While the campaign might raise awareness, what do you hope to achieve now with it?
Problem: Since EA / Bioware reacted with Extended Cut, don't you think we will come off as desperate and unable to please with the campaign?
Problem: Charities are universially liked. How do you justify using the resources to spite Bioware employees instead of making a donation?

Answer these questions and persuade me.

We're not even mentioning retake on the billboard.

We're pimping our site, our orgaization hold the line.

Most people won't make the distinction, since Retake and Hold the Line advertised each other early on.
What is your agenda?
What seperates you from Retake / anti-enders?
What do you hope to achieve except a giant middle finger?
What about my other three questions?

Nine thousand dollars isn't very much money, even in light of how much has already been raised by the people dissatisfied with the ending. And some kind of attention grabbing publicity stunt is a good idea at this point to make it clear that Bioware's "clarification" DLC isn't acceptable.

If you don't like it, don't donate. You can't tell me not to chip in on this if I feel like it's a good idea. We need to respect a diversity of opinions here.

It's pretty obvious at this point that a lot of people just like the idea of being involved in a "movement" and belonging to a community, and will do anything to keep it going.

Maybe the poll choices should of been in red, green, and blue. They all lead to the same bad ending.

People who give us money usually have there own logic on whether they want to spend that money to are cause or not.

I'm sure that's all very reassuring to donors who are on the fence.

Explains topic.  Shows reaction.  Inspires people to find out what it is about.  Less space is..... black.  Catches the attention of everyone driving by.  Clearly addressed to Bioware.

This will go far if you choose it.

They probably wouldn't be able to use the photo, as it shows Tommy Lee Jones (they'd need permission from his agent), and also since it's from a film (they'd probably need permission from the owners under Fair Use).

As for not naming Bioware or Mass Effect directly, they know they'd be liable to get sued under slander and defemation of character laws. Bioware has no actual obligation to remake their creative work simply because fans don't like it. They're only doing so, AND FOR FREE UNDER THE UPCOMING DLC, as a favor to their fanbase because it IS good publicity.

The "middle finger" billboard is completely out of line, and frankly, spits back in the face of the Retakers who worked so hard for voices to be heard in the first place.

And that's why I'm trying my best to list cogent objections that hopefully are not aimed at trying to prove any of you wrong but just pointing out what works and what doesn't work .

I doubt any of the other initiatives which got us in the news got this much negative reaction from those who disliked the endings . Sure we got lots of Pro-ender trolls , but never from those from our own opinion of the ending .

So if what works to get us press are universally liked ideas , then why not stick with that ?

Those who like this idea can just be carried over to the new idea and we can work together united again , please ?

I don't support this idea. I would gladly join in on donating money to a good charity in the cause’s name but this will just give EA, Bioware, and the media a cain-sized weapon to use against us.

Even if I did support this tactic, the billboard design and location feels too untargeted to be useful. What is your demographic of the traffic that goes by that road on those days? Do they know what ME is? If they do, do they care? If they care, what can they do that they haven't already? If they don’t know what ME is, how would this inform them of what it is and why they might care? There needs to be a clear call to action for a concretely-defined target audience otherwise it would just be ridiculed and/or (at best) ignored.

GB, my respect for you just grows with every post. Even as an IT fan ;)
OP, I'm sorry, but it really is a truth that this money could be so much better spent in positive causes like charities, which have been a HUGE boost to our cause and helping those in need, rather than posting a cryptic billboard complaining in a manner that will damage our image to the public.
And regardless of whether we refuse to contribute this stunt will still manage to be tied to Retake as a whole, and not just HoldTheLIne, so that argument doesn't really work.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!

So to hell with the people you're going to be lumping in with your little self promotion, right? I GET IT NOW. It doesn't matter that people think this is a bad idea, it's only about pimping a website full of the people the media has been talking about!

It all makes sense now.

I support new endings for the game, but you're going way too far here. What's more, you'll be damaging the reputation of every person who has ever stated they support the Retake movement. If anything, this'll guarantee we're all labeled as entitled whiny gamers, and then we'll never see the improvements we're all trying to get.

Seriously, do not do this.

so there it is. You are using Retake's members and movement to further yourself? wow, that's low. You have no right now to say anything about EA's practices now

But they do care about the media! They just want the publicity. They don't care about the RME members that want no part of this, even though they'll be lumped in with them.
