Okay, I'm not here to belittle, I dislike the endings, but is what you are suggesting OP essentially a smear campaign and against the law?

Isn't there anything related to charity that Retake can utilize to gain press?

While a billboard would get the press' attention, another charity case would deliver a much better message imo

Is anyone else wondering exactly how EA is going to respond to this?

Litigation, and that's if the movement is lucky.

What would be more awesome is to buy a stretch of 280 from SF to Redwood city. You know the this strip is maintained by "insert name here". Show EA how pissed we are.

I would rather you take that money, and spend it on some kids. Give them like marauder shields Tshirts or something, clothe them, better than money on ad space.

As much as I would like to see that and as smart as a decision for EA that it would be I really hope thats not the case. I don't know if I should be scared, entertained or intrigued by this.

I just can't get over it. A billboard over how a video game ending occurs. It's been done before but ...... things aren't going to end pretty if this goes sideways.

Honestly I would prefer something more positive than this. I get what the message is, but it's a lot of money that could be better used elsewhere.

Not sure EA would be the group responding to the image.. Has EA said anything thus far? Muzyka of Bioware seems to be the most vocal. Then there are the off-collar responses of Bioware employees on twitter.

Might shake the chain... but I am a bit divided on this. Charity felt better, because someone benefitted from our movement. Regardless of winning or losing, charity is a nice reminder of things that occur in the good-hearted nature of a movement.

Just thought you should know, that since the majority of the worlds population will not know the details, you will in fact be giving EA free advertising space.

We could just hedge our bets and make an Anniversary of last year's Rapture - May 21st..

Might get more press that way...

True enough.

I love this idea. We need to keep this on Bioware's mind, and this is a great way to do that.

This is a mistake...form every point is just spells disaster...I personally think it's just a video game and you people are going to be looked asif you were crazy fanatics...not resonable fans.
Sorry I used to agree with the retakers but now they're becoming too hostile, too extreme. It's not gonna get positive results believe me.I'd rather you used that money to something positive. So many things are more important than a 60_80 dollar game. Use the money for that.

UPDATE 1: POLL IS UP!!

http://social.biowar...55/polls/31874/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this poll we have three options. The only options I've been able to receive from billboard agencies in Edmonton (near BioWare HQ) and in the bay area of California (Near EA HQ).

The details for the various options in the poll, are outlined here
First! Bay Area, near EA. This is very time sensitive, as they have one billboard within a few miles of EA, and they haven't been able to sell the slot. It would start April 30th and end May 28th. The next available slot is in June, and is significantly further away. The normal price for this slot is 12,500 with materials, but since we're so close to the deadline, they were talked down to 9,500. This is not only a steal, but exactly what we want. If we miss this opportunity, the next slot (in june) would cost us the original 12,500. PICKING THIS OPTION DOES NOT RULE OUT DOING EITHER OF THE OTHER TWO OPTIONS - FOR TIME RESTRAINTS, PICKING THE OTHER TWO OPTIONS DOES RULE OUT THIS ONE[/b]

Second! Edmonton, they do billboard campaigns, and generally don't sell ad space for a single billboard, or "pick and choose" style, but they were willing to do a single billboard if we leased it for an entire year. This means that for the price of materials (600) we could change the graphic on the board at any time, so it could effectively act as a dialogue with bioware, and is an amazing idea. PICKING THIS OPTION MEANS SKIPPING THE EA CAMPAIGN[/b]

Third! Edmonton, but we do the city wide campaign. This would entail 17 billboards, mostly on heavily trafficked (not highway) roads. And the timeframe would be for 4 weeks. The material costs for this are significant, and it would cost 32,000 with materials. PICKING THIS OPTION MEANS SKIPPING THE EA CAMPAIGN[/b]

This is a dialogue, so please comment below if there are any questions regarding, or if you simply have something to say.
This poll will close in 12 hours! So that we have an answer for them tomorrow morning.

NOTE: THE EA AREA BILLBOARD AGENCY CAN HOLD OUR ORDER FOR 72 HOURS STARTING TOMORROW MORNING. THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE LOSE IT AT THAT TIME, BUT IT DOES MEAN ANOTHER COMPANY... -COUGH- COULD BUY IT OUT FROM UNDER US AT THAT TIME. IF WE DECIDE TO GO FOR THE AREA AROUND EA, IT WOULD BE PRUDENT IF WE COULD RAISE THE MONEY IN THAT TIME. THE TIME CONSTRAINTS ON THE OTHERS ARE NOT NEAR AS GREAT, AND WE COULD FOCUS ON HAVING THE MONEY RAISED BY MID MAY.

PROPOSED BILLBOARD DESIGN:

(MIGHT be subject to chance with the addition of "paid by future dlc customers in the bottom lefthand corner")

BILLBOARD LOCATION (IF EA OPTION IS CHOSEN):

ORIGINAL THREAD CREATED BY MICHEAL SPAULDING ON HOLD THE LINE.COM: http://www.holdtheli...on-related.796/

Micheal will stop by in this thread to answer any questions you may have soon.

A Chip In will be created tomorrow morning as well based on whatever you guys decide.

THANKS! AND REMEMBER TO HOLD THE LINE![smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/cool.png[/smilie]

PS: For those who are curious, YES we have spoken with the various advertisting agencies regarding these billboards. This is not some fantasy/dream. We have the costs, the location, and now we need your help as well. HELP SPREAD THIS AS FAR AND WIDE AS YOU CAN. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Your post gave me hope when I read the headline but then it becomes extremely disappointing. I don't know what you want. What are you gonna do with the billboard? What is the point of this? What are you looking for?
You haven't answered simple fundamental questions.

Going to be a huge waste of $32,000 +

Oh well, if you're stupid enough to waste your money on such things go for it. You clearly aren't worthy of having the money

Yes actually. A new fund raising group for charity called Save Point will be starting soon.

This shows a slight divide in the RME movement, above we see the efforts of those involved in the facebook page. This thread shows the efforts of the folks over at www.holdtheline.com

One of the more disappointing things of the movement.

Free press for EA and Bioware, any press is better than no press. This is not the best idea, and I'm a Retake Mass Effect follower as well. I do think we should do something, but this isn't it. There was mention earlier of a bus stop across from Bioware HQ when we sent the cupcakes. Putting Marauder Shields on there would be less expensive and send Bioware a message rather than the media and random people who don't care or hate us.

I don't see what the problem is

Fans already donated 80 thousand to charity
fans gave cupcakes

But the message was not understood yet. And nothing can be clearer than this, I suppose

It'l show people are comitted and that they are not going to swallow just everything they're told. HTL and RME know what they want and they're honestly fighting for it.

It'll get attention. Some people will say "omg this is ridiculous, they're going too far". But others will also think "omg, what are those guys going to do next?". And maybe someone at Bioware/EA will realize that sticking up with fans may be a better option then stick with Casey and Walters pride.

There's no real divide, the rumor is that EA has contacted the owner of the facebook page and he's trying to create a divide, but most people who visit both sites really don't give a ****. It's just more political games and PR moves. Really starts making you hate EA and Bioware.

It's been done before and mainstream media ridiculed those that were involved. While the attempt is genuine to prove a point whith video games it is not worth the attention to gamers or the video game industry that this type of activism brings.

People...think about it: why WOULDN'T EA approve? Free publicity! And controversy generates interest in products.

As a publicly traded corporation EA has one purpose (and one purpose only): to make money for its shareholders.
