The reapers have a mission to prevent the technological singularity. This is only understood to be the inevitable AI take over. However, aren't there other better techno 'singularities' that are also being prevented by the reaper cycle? For instance....
 1) Intergalactic travel. An advanced civilization that is allowed to persist may develop a way to communicate and travel to other galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and beyond; hence spreading milky way organic life abroad. This could potentially preserve the milky way's organic life against aggressive AI...the cosmos is quite frankly too big for the AI to follow us and exterminate us everywhere. Refugees always have somewhere to go next.
2) DNA mastery. An advanced civilization that is allowed to persist may develop a way to become super-organics. The possiblilites are endless and they may be greater than AI.
3) Immortality. The Frankenstein vision may be realized by a sufficiently advanced civilization. Isn't that the ultimate singularity?
4) Time travel. An advanced civilization that is allowed to persist may solve the mystery of time travel, hence finding a far less genocidal method for preserving organic life against the AI threat. A back-in-time cycle is better than the reaper cycle.
5)' An end to all war' scenarios. Which one is the real singularity in the context of war technology? The ultimate destructive capability or the ultimate defensive capability? In the latter case, war has ended. An advanced civilization that is allowed to persist may find this answer.
6) The uber virus. An advanced civilization that is allowed to persist may discover the ultimate weopan against AI that can be used at any time to wipe them out. A virus against computers can travel through the vacuum of space unlike a virus against organic life.
