Why put accuracy upgrade on geth shotgun when the 3 bullet thingys shoot like a single bullet straight towards enemies?

When you're not locked onto the target with the aiming reticle the shots are spread out but when the reticle is on the enemy all the shots come into one shot and goes to the enemy. I dont see the point of putting the accuracy mod on it but I read some people do.
