What is the hardest game you ever played? Did you ragequit? Any good links to some good ragequits?

I still haven't finished Deathlord.

The Vegas sewers were difficult to me as a child and the Citadel.

When I was 6 or 7 and I played Command & Conquer: Red Alert, man that was tough at times. Still not completely sure if I actually completed both of the campaigns or if I watched them on YouTube.

Other hard games, I can't really remember. I just remember there were some that were really hard and it was so great to beat them, but I can't remember what they were. :o

I watched a video of that a while back and decided that I couldn't be The Guy.

Civ5 on Deity level? I can't even beat it using cheesy exploits.

One of the hardest back in the day was Zork 1&2, which is a text adventure, with descriptions like "You are standing in a dark room. You are likely to be eaten by a grue." - I think I beat one of them but can't remember which.

ME3 on Insanity was pretty damn hard. I was very impressed. I had to drop down to Hardcore, and even in a couple of areas down to Normal.

Hard Reset on Insane was hard enough to make me rage quit. The first Portal as well, I got stuck on one of the puzzles.

Also this game - I can't figure out how to beat it.

And there was one part of VTMB that I absolutely could not beat without cheating - the cemetery scene where you have to stop some zombies from escaping.

What? DA:O on Nightmare mode was a cake walk. You could spam cheap potions with no cooldown to get through any battle. Especially compared to DA2 which had cooldowns for potions and enemies that steal them.

Seriously Jedi, you list DA:O as one of the hardest games you ever played? WOW! To me, DA:O was a joke, even on 'Nightmare'. That game was just way too easy.

The Witcher 2 is really extremely hard, even on 'Normal' it's pretty damn hard.
Heck, The Witcher 2 on PC on 'Normal' is actually harder than DA:O on PC on 'Nightmare'.

But the hardest game ever? VVVVVV

Playing Surviving/Flourishing Emperor in CIV 3, more than warlord in Civ 4 and difficulty 6 in Civ 5 is almost impossible.

I've beaten many times in this game on Normal difficulty and Warrior class (DAO normal equals to ME2 insanity). Abominations and those evil giants were so though. Fade kicked my ass, I didn't beat the Golem boss (under dwarven city) and I didn't kill any dragon except the final boss. Drinking 20 healing potions when fighting Loghain shows the difficulty.

The toughest son of a b*tch is Mephistopheles in NWN: Hordes of the Underdark

DA:O is pretty easy once you better know how the abilities and what not work(there's a mod on the PC that exposes more info) and build appropriately. Even if you don't, it's not that hard. Last time I played(on hard), I was just picking abilities that my character wanted to pursue and she didn't die once, except once in the fade when she ran into a bunch of fireballs out of nowhere. Admittedly though, all of her progression was geared towards ensuring her self-preservation, which I guess might be optimal.

Pausing is pretty important too, if you're like me and don't play RTS games and thus can't think quickly enough to make good decisions in real-time.

Most recently Resonance of Fate. Absolute pain in the **** early on difficulty wise. Probably down to the complex battle system, shame really as other than that it could have been a wonderful RPG in my books.

VVVVVV is not the hardest game ever, but it is super awesome. Veni, vidi, vici was uber cool.

About DA:O being a hard game - sure there were the potions (and that was probably a bit of a fluke) - but considering that I don't want to use potions in games, like ever, I can say it was quite tough (I did finish it - and it was more awesome for the handicap). In other words, a good game - with possible exploits (which didn't actually feel like exploits).

As to my favorite video when it comes to insane games: Touhou.

I've never rage-quitten in a bad sense.

Another good one was the Dragon Slaying campaign in Heroes 3: Armageddon's Blade. Took me a long while to finish that one. Closest I've been to a rage-quit, as it simply took too much time to find out that you'd done things wrong.

Also, an infinitely tough one is Osmos. Simply because in some levels I needed to let my sphere run on a trajectory for the night, in order to get the level completed. Also, the game is never-ending - it creates infinitely harder levels on its own
with every "forever" zone you do (once you've completed the "main" game).

The Civiliation series can be near impossible as well - though for me those get a bit tedious to try out (unlike games where there's some more "actual" gameplay involved, where I don't need to think past the encounter - like VVVVVV or Dragon Age Origins - ][ got tiresome because of other reasons).

The waiting game for Half Life 3.

Also, Ninja Gaiden(Xbox) on the hardest setting. I Wanna Be the Guy, The Game, is also a great option for hair-pulling. It's free, too.

I am currently playing DCS: Black Shark and DCS: A-10C Warthog. Or should I say "I am trying to learn how to play them". These are one of the most complex flight sims I have seen so far. It's a bit too realistic. :P

Devil May Cry 3 - I can basically only remember this game to be the one I had most difficulty with, and then probably some platform games or something else I can't think of.

I'd have to go with Dark Souls, for hardest game I actually tried to force myself through. I loved everything about that game...except actually playing it.

Other games were pretty easy to toss aside if difficulty level exceeded the enjoyment level.

^ Yeah, I'd go with Dark Souls as well. I didn't get very far at all, before I gave up.

A couple of others:
Lost Planet 2 - the game wasn't terribly difficult, but there was a fight near the end that we just kept having to restart, and never did beat it. That was in co-op. I have no idea how you could play SP without getting your arse handed to you repeatedly.

Ninja Gaiden 2 - I don't know why I thought I could play this game. It was a lesson in humility, that's for sure.

White Knight Chronicles 2 - I beat the first game with no issues, but those stupid Duke Gigas caused me to ragequit more than once (I think 10 times was just about enough). Just ask my husband - he was a little scared.

I do sympathize with the DAO votes. I'm playing that right now, as a human male rogue, and just finished up the Fade last night. I stupidly attempted it at a measly level 8, and had to load my last save more time than I care to admit. Once I got the Golem form, I started taking names once again.

Thats because when DMC3 was released outside of Japan they took hard mode and made it normal mode, Dante must die and made it hard mode, normal mode and made it easy, etc.

I haven't finished the game yet but i was close. I refused to play on easy when I unlocked it because I felt that the game was insulting me with it.
