Plok..to this day I have not finished the game passed the 3 giant frog dudes.

I concur with Plok being a hard game; and that's the furthest I could get as well. (Couldn't get past a flashback/dream....) Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts is another tough game.

Ikaruga is another game I found tough as I just never could complete it. Another along those lines is Viewtiful Joe on 'Adult', if memory serves, as I never could beat Fire Leo on that difficulty.

Being somewhat inexperienced with PC gaming in general DA:O was pretty tough for me.

I just play Oblivion, i can say this is the hardest game i have ever play.

1. The enemies level with the character
2. Each level up will bring more enemy to spawn
3. PC must stand alone against all
4. PC will likely to die in higher level
5. Economy is so bad to buy healing potions
6. To level up perfectly, must train the PC to do the same thing over and over, or else will not get full +5 in the attribute to upgrade
7. weapons and armors will degrade in each combat, so can't stand for long unless can repair them my self, usually i run out of repair hammer in the middle of a mission (in a cave or something)
8. Healing spell cost and effect is ridiculous, heal little, cost so much

So far i play, my PC can survive as far as level 5, then she screw up!

So,  I must make my PC an all rounder
- can use bow effectively
- can melee effectively
- can cast spell effectively
- can summon creatures to aid her effectively

The only effective class so far i play is Breton-Warrior-Spellsword, even so, after level 5 she sure screw up fighting that dinosaur-like creature

Imperial-Warrior-Knight/Imperial-Warrior-Warrior is fine, but after level 5, she will run out of potions, in my calculation she can't survive for long

I don't play stealthy game-play yet, but i think it will screw up anyway,

So, for me, Oblivion is the hardest game i play now

Hardest games I finished?

- Radiant Silvergun
- Thunder Force V
- Axelay
- Legendary Wings
- Contra III
- Bayou Billy
- Battletoads (Also Battlemaniacs, which wasn't so much a sequel as a rehash of the NES game.)
- Batman (NES version)

The hardest games I never finished were Contra: Hard Corps and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. CHC belonged to a friend. He took it with him when moved to another state. NG3 I still own, but after a point I gave up. Limited continues made it very hard to memorize patterns in later levels.

I'll agree with you on this one! :P  That game was pretty difficult!

Oh... And has anyone actually landed the damn plane in Top Gun? :P  That's another title that earns the "Hardest games of all time" XD

Impossible Mission (C64 - after trying I decided to never play these kind of games again and i kept that...)

Mafia1 (The racing mission was insane without a joystick - hate waypoint saving since this one)

MOO2 (I narrowly escaped victory on the hardest difficulty in an epic battle with the Sakkra armada, they outrun me in population and I countered with tech. Never played so thoroughly scientific after - games should be fun. It was challenging, though...)

Hardest game ever:
Any text adventure when you even don't know the language good enough. Localisation was not an issue back in these days. (It contributed to learning English, I suppose...)

The Lost World for the PS1. Although that game's difficulty was due to extreme gameplay imbalances and crap controls.
Nightmare Creatures for the PS1 was insanely difficult as well because the game would drain your health just for going exploing, friggin stupid. Shinobi for the PS2 had this stupid feature as well. The game sucked pretty badly.

The 8 and 16 bit generations of gaming had too many impossibly hard games to even list.

Hardest games past the 16 bit era that are actually good.

The Souls Series(Demon's Souls and Dark Souls)
Colony Wars Vengeance(PS1)
R-Type Delta(PS1)
Ninja Gaiden(Xbox)
King's Field(Spiritual predecessor to Demon's Souls)
Ikaruga

Oblivion, and hard? O.O

You are familiar with the levelling system there? It's simple - you do things so that you'll get 5 points for three abilities each level up - and make some uber-powerful spell when you have the possibility. Then nothing can beat you, ever.

Also, I had like 100 000 gold pieces left over by level 5, and didn't need to buy anything, at all, during the whole game.

Oblivion is so fundamentally broken, as far as I'm concerned, it's sad.

If you install Duke Patricks Archery, Melee and Magic mods as well as FCOM, it is damn challenging and a lot of fun.

You can one shot enemies with your bow, but it is like Skyrim, very slow to draw. And enemy archers can easily one-shot you as well, so you have to approach every combat encounter very cautiously, hiding behind trees and rocks for cover. Even the magic uses directional wards like Skyrim, so you can no longer put yourself into a coccoon of damage resistance.

At around 75% on the difficulty slider, with those mods installed I die many times with every combat encounter. Even the smallest dungeons take hours to complete.

There are also several mods that greatly improve the economy system to make it harder to become rich.

@Nizaris if you are playing the vanilla game, you need to get some Transcendental Sigil Stones and put one that fortifies magicka on every item of clothing, including wrist irons. (Don't wear armor because it reduces your magic effectiveness, so you must enchant street clothing, like pants, shoes, etc., and you can use wrist irons instead of gauntlets.) You will end up with over 1000 base magicka this way, and you can cast some spells that do more than 100,000 damage. Magic is over-powered in Oblivion, especially in the vanilla game.

the most OP combo is
Spell A: weakness to magic 100% for 5 sec
Spell B: weakness to magic 100% for 5 sec + weakness to Fire, Frost or Shock 100% for 5sec
Spell C: Fire, Frost or Shock dmg 10pts for 10sec on touch (or higher)

Then cast Spell A, Spell B, Spell A, Spell B, Spell A, Spell B, Spell C - the result is something like 108,000 damage from Spell C due to the Weakness to Magic stacking on itself

(cumulative Weakness to Magic Effect 3200%, cumulative Weakness to Fire,Frost or Shock effect 3200%, total damage multiplier 1089x base damage)

Even in a heavily modded version with FCOM and Duke Patricks, etc., at the highest difficulty settings it is still more powerful than non-magic builds.

^^ I'll take your word on it. :)
(I've a bit of a grudge with the overall art-style of Oblivion as well - so I'm not going to re-play any time soon)

Thanks for the suggestions and detailed explanations (whoa, 108,000 damage... I've exploited magic, but not to that extent of a holy number :D)

These are the hardest games I've played outside of PvP in SSF4. Most Witcher fans think Dark Souls is harder than TW2, and I'll take their word for it. But Arena mode in TW2 is about as uncompromising as you can get in a combat system. You spend 30-40 minutes building your character up, and certain waves will have enemies that one-shot you, no matter what gear you have ( or maybe I'm chuggin the wrong potions, I dunno). You have to get well into the mode so you can access the actual skill trees to start choosing develpement paths.

Hard Reset on insane. Well, I gave up.

Ghosts and Goblins probably takes the crown. I believe it was a direct arcade port to the NES, so the difficulty was obscene.

This game was probably the hardest I've ever played--yes, harder than Battletoads. It took me, seriously, 10 years to beat this game; although, it was in continued intervals.

Hm, really?

You talking about hardest difficulty or just the normal? Because I died 3 times on my first playtrough and on hard I only died 2 times. Uh, I really sounded judgemental there. Sorry... XD

I would say that Battletoads for me.

@ereoru

I am not familiar with the level up mechanic of this game. it is confusing. But i learn in time.

It is fine for the first 5 level, but after level 5 the game become extremely hard.

How come no need to buy anything? My armor and weapon broken hell lot after few battle. Even if block with weapon/shield still take damage, and enemy give damage a lot. For sure must buy spells and potions. There is no own-made healing potion as far as i know.

What i do for money is loot the guilds, once become a member i loot everything in the guilds and sell them. But still not enough to learn and upgrade skill/spells.

I don't know how you can say this game is easy, i don't know what mod you install or you just boasting.

@naughty99

I don't want to install any mods for now, just want to beat the vanilla first.

I am not into spell spamming game-play, but more to warrior-type with some magic. But the game force me to make an all rounder character.

Enchanting need to trap soul, that is the idea i find so evilish, so i don't want enchanting. I reject enchanting at all. But i use any enchanted weapons/armor i found, and never recharge. because i just don't like the idea of trap soul.

I am bad with math, so don't bother with the numbers lols but thanks anyway.

Now my character at level 5 and have become a vampire somehow, lols, and her face become like an old guy, so ugly! I don't know if i want to continue playing her. maybe i create a new one. I manage to bloodsucking two victims, and about to meet the Count at Skingard (do i spell it right?)

And maybe i will follow some of  your advice, maybe Battlemage or Sorcerer? Nightblade sound cool.

Edit : maybe Witch Hunter.....

One of the first NES games I ever owned:

The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link

It was a side scrolling Zelda game and not possible (for me) to even get to 3rd castle.
If you know anyone that has ever finished that game, give that person a medal.
