I didn't expect to play one or ride one/something like that. But I expected to see one in cutscene...oh well.

This.

I kind of thought that in end epilogue, after the slaying of the archdemon, we'd get a glimpse of one.

I was kind of hoping that Morrigan would run across the ability to shape shift into one in one of Flemeth's grimoires. Sort of her shapeshifter variant of Wynne's Vessel of the Spirit. Though a full on party member Griffon would be cool, I think the interaction between Griffon and Dog would be sort of like Kevin and Doug from the movie Up. Probably for the best it wasn't included, poor Shale's head would have exploded and Wynne would never get to finish another story.

I admit I was a little hopeful, but since we have Dog I doubted Bioware would give players another furry companion.

Maybe someone will find an old griffin feather some where and a clone can be made.

You know, something tells me that Wardens Keep isn't done, it's just the first in a series of DLC, next one probally has you adding other people too the keep, nothing major, just some people, but when a expansion hits, BAM griffin quest with the stables.

There will be a griffon in the next game. But it will be the Dog's mount and I won't be able to ride it.

Additionally, if I was interviewing Bioware about DA:2 the first question out of my mouth would be,

"Are there griffons in it?"

Well... if you get Duncan's shield and give it to Alistair, you get to see one. :)

Seriously, though. It wasn't long before I felt that seeing a griffon was out-of-the-question. The story just didn't seem to be heading that way. Its appearance would have seemed really forced, innappropriate and highly campy. Maybe next game...

This would be great DLC, just like the Dragons are beginning to re emerge from the pits of hell, lol, I would imagine that Griffon's could again appear from the Heavens.

Regaining Griffins could definitely be a neato piece of DLC or as part of the plot in an expansion?

Who can resist getting kick ass killer pets, really? I mean, I even picked up Rabbit.

Wynne "Unfortunately the griffons died off a couple hundred years ago after the last blight"

Translation: We noticed this was a plot hole so we figured we'd kill them off cause @#*@# it we have no idea how to make this one work.

And thus, no one complained too much about a lack of mounts.

Why is it that people always assume the devs are lazy when something isn't implemented how they want it?

The dragons were thought dead and then suddenly a few hidden survivals showed up and boom we have the Dragon Age. Who says we won't have a sequel called Griffon Age?

Not to mention, wow on the assumption of it at all saving them from the no mounts complaint.

But really, I don't think this game needed Griffins. There was so much already going on. Also, it isn't like they can't set something in the past, when there WERE Griffins.

Wow. I'm surprised to hear that anyone was expecting a Griffon sighting or a Griffon mount in-game.

Yeh I hoped we'd maybe at least see a cutscene of maybe a mom and her young flying over some distant mountains.

But deep down I knew it would never happen. Bioware are old hats at this game dev stuff and player expectations. If they had included a single griffon, many players would have extrapolated that in their minds as a binding contract and took it as a promise of flying mounts in a DLC.

If anyone read the dev post about horses, and having to design a game from the ground up with mounts in mind, we can see that flying mounts(or any mounts)are something that likely won't happen ever in a Bioware rpg. The maps are small and concentrated content, rather than large sandbox areas condusive to mounts.

If I recall, a Bioware dev said he is a huge fan of Fallout 3, but Bioware does not do sandbox games. Anything that takes up dev time is something that is a large part of the story and character interactions.

Cool as it would be, mounts just don't serve much a purpose in the game other than answering the question of why we walk everywhere:)

I'm just fascinated that after seeing the word "Griff O n" (mythical flying eagle lions) spelled repeatedly IN THIS THREAD, people still manage to spell it instead like Merv's last name... :)

(the Xbox crowd is going, "who is Merv?")

Most developers will point at something and say "that is a dead horse".

People will most of the time then ask. "Is the horse alive?"

The developers will then ride a horse into the game.

Bioware says "that is a dead horse".

People ask if it is alive.

Bioware slaps people across the face and says "get over it, we said it was dead. Getting you a new puppy shouldn't make you forget about the previous one".

I know loss is hard for a lot of people to handle, but you seriously need to get over the fact that certain mythological races are extinct.

I did actually at one point expect griffons in the game, but then I read the Stolen Throne where David Gaider pulled the "bait-and-switch" I was expecting with a dragon. Thinking David was not a man of repetition, I dropped my expectations of griffons in the game.

Not to mention I'd have heard if such a complex model was going to be made. We'd see them in way more concept art, etc.

I do not think griffons would make good DLC or expansion material. They are dead. They should at best resurface in a prequel.
