Hi there folks :)

I'd just like some clarification really.  I've just downloaded the Warden's Keep DLC.  I've read a bit about the best time to go but ideas are mixed.

Am I right in thinking that it doesn't matter and that the gear and loot you recieve there adjusts to the level you are when you visit?  Or should I wait until I play my next character and go early to make it worth while?

Many thanks!

Personally I think the DLC is best done as early as possible. The loot does adjust to your level, but there are ways to adjust the "tier" of the important items there after you acquire them if that is important to you. Otherwise, it is good experience and great loot to give you an advantage before heading out into the storyline quests.

I honestly go as soon as I am done with Lothering. I like the experience and the extra 2 skills you can get from it(Dark Sustenance with a mage was pretty handy when I ran out of lyrium pots).

Mages, especially, should go early.

I also think there's a good RP reason to go early. By regaining the traditional keep of the Grey Wardens, you're demonstrating both that you're competent and that the Grey Wardens are back in Ferelden for good.

Pretty clear then!

I shall wait until my next character before playing it then - it'll add a bit of new stuff third time about!

Many thanks for your replies!

i always get Shale right after Lothering simply because at they level she completly owns alister when it comes to tanking... Shale is a great tank at the start but then around level 14ish Alister becomes a monster

Yeah, Shale is a pretty good tank through out the game but it is in the lower levels that she really shines.

Yeah I've noticed this too, I just left Orz, Shale is 16 and her tanking skill was starting to weaken around the 12-13 mark.

Shale is a girl?

I thought Shale was an effeminate male statue, (certainly male looking physique).

This will be a shame if I learn Shale is female. The thought of a near indestructible giant that's concerned about looking to wide and likes shiny baubles was just too funny. ;)

It is a she.  After I found that out she just reminded me of Bea Arthur from the Golden Girls, so I was pretty pleased.

For Warriors if you go later on when you have a high level the quality of Grey Warden commander's armour goes up to Dragonbone.

You can either put items into the Warden's Keep chest, leave the zone, return, re-open it to find upgraded lewtz, or, which is slightly more expensive and tedious but I find to be less glitchy, sell items to Gorim in Denerim (may work with other merchants but i had the best luck with him), quick save, then force load, then buy your equipment back at a higher tier (and higher price).

It helps to make a new save before selling and quicksaving/loading so that if you don't have enough gold to buy your stuff back you're not screwed!!

It only works for items that self-adjust their tier based on when you find them. Some items, like Helm of Honnleath, always seem to be the same quality regardless of when you get them. The set of armor you acquire in the Warden's Keep however does self-adjust.

If you get an item like this early and it is of a lower tier, I believe you can store it in the party chest earned after completing Warden's Keep, then either save/reload or leave Warden's Keep to somewhere else then come back. It should adjust itself to (I believe) it's highest tier when you find the item again in the party chest.

Should that not work, I believe you can also sell the armor to Bodahn in the party camp. When attempting to buy the item back (once you leave the vendor menu and re-open it) it should be of a higher tier, however this will obviously cost you some sovereigns.

My thoughts, wardens keep done depends on your class. If your a warrior or rogue you want to do it asap, you dont even need to finish lothering, just get on the highway and go to the keep, after your done with it lothering will still be there (However if you visit anything other then camp or dlc content lothering will be destroyed)

For my mage though I delay going there until around level 10 or so. The robe/abilities are nice, but I would rather do the mage tower or get shale first. Imo what the game does to shale's talents makes me cry.

It's worth going ASAP, if only for the Helm of Honnleath. It's -that- overpowered.
