Bioware,

On the 8th of March, 2012, I purchased Mass Effect 3 Retail Collector's Edition. On this date I installed your online DRM client, Origin, and your product, Mass Effect 3. Since this date I have been playing your game and, aside minor issues with unrelated topics, I have been enjoying my time.

On todays date your online DRM/distribution client, Origin, patched my copy of Mass Effect 3. Post patch and on launching Mass Effect 3, the game now prompts me after connecting to the EA Servers for what is called a "Cerberus Online Activation Code". Neither the game activation code or the DLC activation code I received with my purchase of the original game work, and I do not understand why am now unable to play the product I purchased.

Forgive my abrupt writing; I am currently raging with the force of a thousand suns and am restraining myself from swearing violently.

Regards,

T1l. (PC OriginID: VIGIL_AU)

EDIT: If I was unclear, I am asking why I apparently need to purchase a second online pass that I assume I already had in my initial purchase. My Origin client knows my product code and I use Origin to launch my game. My purchase is legitimate. Why, then, do I need a "Cerberus Online Activation Code"? Why is this not mentioned ANYWHERE on the forums?

EDIT EDIT: The three options the in-game prompt gives is "Redeem", "Purchase" and "Exit". Redeeming is impossible, as I do not have an appropriate code. Purchase results in the prompt of "Error", as does "Exit".

A lot of us are having the same problem. I haven't been able to get into MP for about a week, despite the fact I too have an activation code I redeemed on launch day that Origin no longer seems to recognize. After the patch, I am also getting the prompt for the "Cerberus activation code".

A bunch of us are discussing the topic in this thread

Feel free to contribute there. Hopefully we can get a dev to chime in about this.

i may be stupid for asking this, but did you try a repair installation? or uninstalling mass effect 3, then origin, then restart your PC, and re-download Origin and install mass effect 3 again? if neither of those methods work, or if you did those things already, i'm sorry for sounding dumb and i suggest talking to EA directly, when in doubt, blame Origin, they handle the patching process

I can't speak for the OP, but I've done all of those and I'm still having the same problem.

I'd say ask EA about this, because this shouldn't happen, i did my patching process fine, the only thing different was that I have the digital standard edition (thinking about upgrading to N7 soon) but still, i just keep From Ashes from downloading I'm boycotting the DLC until they remove their DRM, but that's off subject, I hope EA can help you out

That's all good, but a lot of us were having this problem well before the patch. As you can see in the thread I linked to, some have been having this problem since nearly a week after the game released. And the only "help" EA seems to be giving out are the tips you gave! (Maybe they should pay you a consultant fee! ;) )

Although I do appreciate your attempt to help! Please don't get me wrong!

LOL! at least i wouldn't use the ban hammer and shovel crap customers' way if I worked for EA and i'd do everything I can...unlike what most of EA's tech support does >: D

For me, whose 18 days gone by without a solution in sight, have just came back from a online session with EA tech support, and all they could do is to pass it up the food chain.

When in doubt, blame Kai Leng, works every time, and it'll make EA wonder WTF, just trying to lighten the mood

Well, Bioware. I've purchased a product I am no longer able to use.

Same here. I just faced the same problem. Wondering what went wrong with my game. Suddenly was asked to redeem Cerberus Code.

Hmmm... three options, none of which fix the problem... reminds me of something else...

Anyway, hope it gets sorted out for you. Sometimes when I connect to multiplayer it'll give me a screen for a second that says something like "You must register your game to access online features." It disappears in a second, but it scares me that EA may be trying to steal me doubloons.
