It would be nice to see a "proper" elf companion. A dalish elf and a city elf would be nice and then you would be able to have an all elf party!

Apart from that, theres 3 characters that i REALLY were certain would join my group at some point: Jowan, Lanaya and that elven hunter who gives you the quest to find his wife on the Brecilian Forest.

Any male mage. I was a bit disappointed that all the mage companions were female. Preferably of a more neutral alignment than Wynne or Morrigan. (Romanceable would be nice, but that's probably asking for too much.)
Or a female warrior would be nice too, except there are too many warrior companions already. Sten, Oghren, Shale, Dog, and (secret). (Before anybody says you technically do get a female warrior, no, that doesn't count.)

I have to ask because we have a couple cretin party members - Alistair, Sten, Ohgren, and to think about it, Zevran isnt exactly the brightest guy I've ever met either.

Anyways i do have to agree that a new Mage would be the best option as both the current ones are easily lost, i still say Jowan though, afterwards a new female elf rouge would be rather lovely true (both must be romance options~! *shakes fist at bioware*)

I'm not fussed on exactly who but I would want he or she to be a proper evil character as I often play darker characters and find that none of the party members available are truly sadistic. I'd hope for someone who would laugh and join in as my character ruined someone's life, etc.

Bella as a female DW Warrior. She is a romance option for male players and she has a sidequest for you once your approval rating is high enough.
Jowan as a male Blood Mage. Romance option for female players.
Isabela as a female Duelist. Once your approval rating is high enough you can set sail and travel to a new location for her personal sidequest. And she's a romance option.

Oh, and as Steel Moon said, Bishop. Of course not the same character, but in terms of characters, I loved Bishop. It's so sad that game was cut so short and was so unfinished and unpolished.
