If the Extended Cut is mainly cinematics and no gameplay... I think I speak for many - among clarification of the ending - when I ask:
Can you also provide CINEMATICS for our WAR ASSETS in action?
Whether it be intermittant scenes as you progress through the Priority: Earth mission on foot, (at certain checkpoints for example) during the initial entering of the Sol system or (preferably) a bit of both.
Some brief examples of how we as fans envisioned seeing our assets:
- Show us a Rachni ship - how it attacks a Reaper - maybe it fires pods where Rachni can infest the Reaper, or it crashes into it!
- Show us the Mercenaries on the ground, playing dirty - Vorcha flanking a group of husks, using a Mech to take out a brute etc., Zaeed fighting along side a Blue Sun (irony!)
- Show us the Spectre(s) that decided to aid in the battle - with high combat tactics, maybe show the Salarian spectre de-cloaking and taking out a Marauder
- Kirahee and his team - Holding the Line behind cover!
- Grunt taking out a Banshee by himself
- Wrex leading the Krogan on an assault on a handful of modified Rachni
- Jack and her Biotic Squad repelling shots and slappin' singularities on people
- Samara fighting solo repelling waves of Husks
- Jacob, Miranda and some Ex-Cerberus
- Geth Primes tactical unit dropping from the sky
- Kasumi infiltrating---something!
- Cannon-strapped Elcor!
- Volus bombing ships
- Batarian fleets
- Quarian and Geth Fleets (or at least a few ships - fighting side by side if peace was made)
- Krogans on Kakliosaurs
- The Destiny Ascension - maybe we could finally see how its main gun fires, likely taking out a Reaper or two?
Most importantly, show the unity among all of the above, some coming to save eachother, helping out eachother - this would be great in showing galactic unity.
This would go a long way to providing an impact and feel of "realism" in the galaxy we each crafted and provide some sense of completeness toward the ending; Seeing all the people we recruited fighting alongside eachother. It would make the ending more agreeable alongside the clarification intended in the DLC as well.
I again humbly request this be included.
*Please note we understand if not all assets are represented do to complexity and budget
*Please note the above examples are fan preferences of how we envisioned our assets, you may implement them using these ideas or how you see fit - it is more important that they be included with purpose!
Thank you.
EDIT: If having 20 + cinematics is well-out of the budget, please considering combining multiple appearances for assets/squadmates in fewer cinematics.
Example (credit to Gecko614!):
I can imagine all of this stuff easily - I can see Zaeed behind cover, alone and surrounded by hundreds of husks - his weapon empty, he throws it away and pulls another rifle off his back "come on Jessie, lets show these bastards that we've still got some fight in us" as he grimaces, stands up and starts firing..
I can imagine Grunt carving a line through cannibal after cannibal after cannibal, before coming face to face with a Brute, it readies itself for a charge, Grunt smiles, roars and charges, the Brute lifts him off his feet and then Wrex overs a hill, barrels into the Brute, knocks it down and unloads his Claymore into its face. Grunt gets up and sniggers and they both keep moving.
I can imagine a group of Mixed Infantry, Mercs and Biotics, low on Thermal Clips and even less Morale holding out against a battlefield full of Marauders and Cannibals and Husks, one of the Biotic students, clearly tired throws up a shield to save them from a Cannibals grenade, the explosion forces her unconscious through exhaustion, Jack blasts the cannibal into bits - a Marauder appears at their flank and one soldier notices just a second too late as it takes aim. Kasumi materialises next to it and punches it in its stupid face sending it flying, she looks at soldier and winks tosses them some thermal clips and disappears again.
I can imagine a squad of Salarians holding a bridge, they look they're about to be overrun before before a herd of Elcor come over a crest and blow the bridge to pieces..
EDIT FURHTER:
Here is a sketch that outlines how the end might unfoled with regard to these assets, similar to how the intended GUI was in the original cut content, BioWare please look at implementing the GUI back in the EC - IE assigning assets with consequences to create more invovlement in the ending.
(Credit to OdanUrr!)
Remember,
this is just a sketch, and while most of these ideas probably won't be
implemented, it's interesting to play with them. This sketch can and
probably should be modified and added to somewhat (the space battles in
particular).
0. Picking the team
This will occur while Shepard is travelling to Earth from TIM's base. Basically, he'll call a War Council with his friends and explain a tactic for deploying two squads on Earth using the two shuttles.
Shepard's team:
- If not Tali, she will return to the Flotilla (link up with a Quarian ship in transit) to resume her duty as admiral.
--> If not LI, she'll say goodbye to Garrus.
- If not Garrus, he'll join up with his own special unit (leave the Normandy for a Turian ship while in transit)
--> If not LI, he'll say goodbye to Tali.
- If not Liara, she'll remain aboard the Normandy.
- If not Ashley, she'll deploy with the Special Marine Unit.
- If not Kaidan, he'll deploy with the Special Marine Unit (Kaidan's Biotics)
- If not Vega, he'll join Ashley/Kaidan in the Special Marine Unit
- If not EDI, she'll stay aboard the Normandy.
--> If EDI, she'll say goodbye to Joker.
1. Breaking through, part I: The Charon Relay Battle
Will depend on total strength of Allied Fleet (only fleet assets).
- Less than 50%: staggering losses; Quarian, Salarian, Elcor, Volus, and Batarian fleets almost obliterated; Tali dies.
- 50-70%: heavy losses; Elcor, Volus, and Batarian fleets almost obliterated.
- More than 70%: successful breakthrough; some losses.
2. Breaking through, part II: Earth Blockade
Will depend on total strength of Allied Fleet (only fleet assets).
-Less than 50%: staggering losses; if Garrus not on team, Garrus' shuttle is shot down in transit and he dies; Normandy's hangar is badly damaged; Vega, Cortez, Adams, Tali (if on team), die; Shepard and team (if Tali on team, replacement picked at random) must escape via pod; remaining crew members won't join the battle on Earth.
- 50-70%: heavy losses; if Garrus not on team, shuttle is shot down in transit butGarrus survives the crash; Normandy's hangar badly damaged; Vega, Cortez die; Shepard and team must escape via pod; second team will deploy via Normandy; Normandy able to provide fire support.
- More than 70%: successful breakthrough; if Garrus not on team, will successfully deploy with his unit; Shepard and team will deploy via shuttle; second team will deploy via the second shuttle; Normandy able to provide fire support.
3. Taking down the cannon
- Less than 50%: Shepard and team fight their way alone.
-->If sided with Krogan, will receive Krogan support during the last battle (destroying the cannon): Wrex's Elite. Wrex will die.
--> If sided with Salarians, will receive Salarian support during the last battle (Kirrahe's Team). They will die.
-50-70%: Shepard and team fight their way to Garrus; can't make it through without air support; Normandy under attack, requesting air support; Shepard needs to choose:
--> If Garrus, then Normandy shot down: Joker lives; if LI aboard, they die; if EDI aboard, they "die"; if none aboard, someone else dies.
----> If Shepard saved the Geth, then Geth save Normandy.
--> If Normandy, then Garrus dies in a last stand, taking the heat off Shepard's team.
----> If Shepard sided with Krogan, Wrex's Elite will save Garrus.
When attacking the cannon, Shepard's team will be overwhelmed:
--> If chose Normandy and Garrus dead, Special Marine Unit will provide fire support but die.
--> If chose Normandy and Garrus alive, Special Marine Unit and Wrex's Elite will both provide fire support and survive.
--> If chose Garrus, and Normandy not saved: if sided with Krogan, Garrus alive, Wrex's Elite will provide fire support but die; if sided with Salarians, Garrus dead, Kirrahe's Team will provide fire support but die.
--> If chose Garrus and Normandy saved: if sided with Krogan,
Special Marine Unit and Wrex's Elite will both provide fire support and
survive; if sided with Salarians, Special Marine Unit and Kirrahe's
Team will both provide fire support and survive.
- More than 70%: Shepard and team fight their way with support from Garrus' Unit and Special Marine Unit. No Krogan or Salarian support is required to destroy the cannon.
4. The Speech
- Less than 50%: Shepard addresses only squadmates on the ground; "ultimate sacrifice as the key to victory" speech.
- 50-70%: Speech on lost friends yet hope for the future
--> If Normandy not saved, Shepard addresses only squadmates on the ground.
--> If Normandy saved, EDI retransmits signal to fleets and assets on the ground (Jack's Biotics, Zaeed's Mercenaries, Samara's Commandos, Kaidan's Biotics, Special Marine Unit, Aralahk Company, Wrex's Elite, Kirrahe's Team).
----> If Garrus dead, scene with Tali mourning.
- More than 70%: Victory speech, "we will win today." Speech retransmitted to fleets and assets on the ground.
4.1. The Goodbyes
Shepard says goodbye to LI (only if possible per above).
5. The Final Push
First Stage:
- Jack's Biotics will participate if saved, providing support (shields as in The Long Walk from ME2) or fighting with Shepard.
--> If attack, biotics will only survive if heard a Shepard speech. Otherwise they'll die and Jack too trying to save her students. If Jack LI, sad romance scene.
Second Stage:
- If Zaeed persuaded, he'll take over with his mercenary squad.
--> If Jack LI alive, she'll wish Shepard "luck," much to the mercernaries' delight ("there's a war going on, Shepard!")
- Zaeed's mercenaries will die unless:
--> Heard a Shepard speech, or
--> Rescued by Samara's Commandos (if Samara alive)
Third Stage (destroying the Reaper):
- Samara's Commandos will die unless Shepard has Aralahk Company coming to the rescue (alternatively, Rachni troops or Kirrahe's Team will save the day).
6. The Long Run
- If Shepard doesn't have Normandy support, Harbinger will fire and kill Shepard's team but not Shepard.
- If Shepard has Normandy support but 50-70%, Harbinger will fire before the Normandy takes him down; Normandy will rescue your team but leave you for dead in the ensuing chaos. You must continue alone.
- If Shepard has Normandy support and more than 70%, Harbinger will be taken down before he fires. Shepard and team reach the Conduit.
I support this + the possibility in having an happy ending

pfft I thought this might have been a support thread to get more EMS so I don't have to play MP
I hear you on the whole EMS multiplayer thing....gotta ask tho,why care? Most of the assets are ignored in the end, all the effort in raising EMS becomes moot! The higher you get it-the bigger the slap to the face. All those hours spent fetching are pointless short of wanting a high EMS for an ego boost.
Of course you could be attempting to see Sheps supposed alive scene in the rubble..... to each his/her own.

So much effort from player and devs yet its moot when a final battle never comes and 75% if not more of the asssets get no screentime and no visible influence in the final mission.

If you dont want to see that happen please show your support!!
Let Bioware know how you feel. Let them know you want to see their diverse alien races(n humans) united against the Reapers in an epic showdown.

This shouldn't even be question. It should automatically have been in the game. I don't see how spend all those hours accumulating these war assets..........and there's no reward.

I concur,.sadly it seems most folks would rather speculate or worry about LI's and babies then care about an entire galaxy of missing assets!!

Same here. This is extremely important to save this game from its "worst letdown ever" reputation. After the beauty of the suicide mission in ME2, I expected EVERY MISSION in ME3 to be similar, with every squadmate playing a role in life or death situations. I was optimistic in mars (when kayden and liara were with me but jaimes was still playing a role), but then it fell back to old tropes. Just three guys on the ground - saving the galaxy, the rest loitering in the normandy bar like nothing's happening. "I heard what happened on rannoch" Kayden said to me; to which I replied "reeeeeally????" ..... What a waste. Still, the game was good enough and the war assests had promise for a great "ME2 style" finale, only way more epic..... and then nothing. A cutscene of nameless ships battling the reapers, well done, but meaningless, and a mission on earth with less emotinal impact than Virmire (which they pulled on '07 with a lot less money). What the hell happened bioware? I kept asking myself, what were all those fetch quests for? What does "EMS" even mean!?.................................... And then the starchild.....

If the extended cut is to be just cutscenes, give us at least 30 minutes of pure epicness of everything in the ME series coming to a head. 30 minutes should be enough time to showcase all the war assets, decisions, past/present teammates, other characters, etc.
Greatest hope is the extended cut will give the ME series a proper ending based on the player's choice.

I don't think mere cutscenes would cut it for me (see what I did there?). I want to see my assets fighting alongside me and my team during gameplay, not just in some cutscene I cannot interact with. The war on Earth needs to feel like an actual war, with allied troops, trenches, air support, tanks, etc. I want to see, in gameplay, other Alliance soldiers fighting with Turians/Salarians/Krogan/etc. against a unit of Reaper troops and Shepard being able to assist, having the ability to call on air support to blast a group of Brutes/Banshees, maybe even pilot the Mako again to escort troop deployment. And I really REALLY want WWI-style trench warfare!!!
Is it too much to ask?

I would like to add this:
BioWare, this game was a letdown - as a MASS EFFECT GAME as well as a conclusion to the end of our favorite franchise (personally mine in any medium). But overall, compared to most games in the industry it was more than acceptable.
Yes the ending was bad - but it seems you are trying to make it more complete in the EC. Jade Empire had a short and unfullfilling ending but I still loved to play the game again and again over the years because it wsa great game.
Yes it is full of bugs and horrible design aspects - but the core of the game is still solid.
Yes you pulled alot of BS with from Ashes and gouging your audience with multiplayer - but this is the industry we work with.
I am now OVER the ending depression and look forward to playing through the series again in the months to come, especially with the coming EC. I am also relatively over all the aforementioned. It is now time to take what this game should have done well, but didn't and make it better via the EC.
And unsurprizingly, most of the conflict rests with the ending itself or the content near the ending. This is what the EC is there to fix, no? So I say again, fix the ending as you see fit, but don't forget our demonstration of WAR ASSETS is in proximity to the ending story wise, and fullfills the ending even further.
So please...fix this.
