I am wondering why I always connect to the Dragon Age servers when I play. I know it uploads your character but it doesn't show any special info that you can't see in the game itself. I'm thinking the real main purpose is to upload gameplay stats to Bioware... data they can analyze when they make DLC or a sequel. it's not so different from online multiplayer games.

I don't mind being on the social site but I kinda wish it had more features. y'know??

To steal your credit card numbers or get the URLs to the naughty sites your parents don't know you visit so they can blackmail you.

No?

No.

You dont have to be logged in to play the game.

And the social site does nothing really. But you need to register the game on here to get certain perks.

You mean features specific to the games you register here? I like the way the social site goes beyond the games. People can socialize among friends and get connected with new people. Those are good extra features I think.

It's supposed to make it easier to find custom content for the PC version of the game, since it has a section dedicated to the DA Toolset, and an entire portion of the site is set aside for game modding projects.

I think the main point is to have as large an "official" community as possible, so they can know what people are posting troll threads about. I mean, complaining about. I mean requesting changes!

Exactly. and some people (meaning "I") prefer the format of the old forums.

This social site was ostensibly created as a site for us to come and socialize and facilitate community. But the real purpose is closer to what the thread starter said in the first post. It's to gather data, and help with DLC.

what is the main point of the social site? From the posts I've read its about either boasting or complaining. An intelligent question like this will be buried by guys who cant find the box they bought the game in.I don't know anything about the old forums but I sure do miss the good old days.

Obviously its in the fledgling stage, the site has seemingly grown quite a bit since October and a lot of arbitrary functions don't seem quite as arbitrary.

As more games get involved (Mass Effect 2, for example) I think the site will seem like a more viable alternative to say going on Gamefaqs and other forums. Since you get to see the raw data of players.

While this occurs, you are doing it under the EA/Bioware banner. So their name is the back of your mind :) There is also the money thing if you purchase dloadable content.

But I think it has more to do with keeping their name in mind. And I wouldn't surprised if other EA owned companies start getting similar treatment. If they haven't.

The way socializing is done here is much more dynamic and, IMO, provides better service.

As for another issue, you can prevent game data do be sent if you choose to, though EA/BioWare wouldn't be the only company offering free service in exchange of marketing information.
