I don't get why people are having trouble with ballistic blades. I never miss unless I'm out of range. You just run around, spam shotgun blasts and ballistic blades, then win. Pretty much as long as you're in range, and facing an enemy, they hit and do ridiculous damage.

The brute probably gets staggered, takes a ton of damage, and goes "wtf?!"

Apparently, if a Phantom uses her impale attack on a batarian Soldier, she instantly dies afterward.

If it works on Banshee's I'm in.

So what happens if you spec blade armor for maximum melee damage returned to the enemy, and then get hit by a brute?

Funny enough I just killed a brute with blade armor in my last game. Figured I let him take a dashing swing at me and see what happened (he was alone and on his last armor bar). Felt satisfying seeing the brute dying to blade armor in the little kill display thing.

Also, a phantom that insta killed me (was my first game as a batarian and forgot they couldn't roll...) did not die afterwards from bladed armor. Maybe she wasn't low enough or something, but it definitely didn't one shot her.

I think more clearly it should be "Ballistic Blade Rock But Are Impossible To Aim". When you go to shoot them your body moves right across your view so you have to guess where the enemy is. This is why I HATE third person shooters tbh... and they didn't even use the transparent body trick to at least help you see.

Yeah, it's like shooting with Graal, but even more difficult.

You probably need to spec for more damage return for it to kill Phantoms in one shot.

I doubt the special instakills are affected. It seems like they are just special events which don't actually calculate damage against you, they just put you in bled out status instantly. The high damage melee moves that only incapacitate you (from which you can be revived), like phantom's katana slash combo and brute's charge-swipe, that's what I'm interested in testing.

Instakills don't count, I'm 99% positive on that. I was one-hit by an Atlas, and no damage was delivered to it. Regular melee hits, even the Brute's charge, do count though.

Ah, all right. That's still pretty awesome, being able to tank a Brute like that. Should be really useful for the ninja Brutes that manage to stealth charge into my spine.

You could still rightly mess up a Phantom from her normal attack sequance. She hits like 2 or 3 times for some heavy damage. Getting her to die from that could be worth the risk of getting stabbed.

I'm planning to do exactly that once I unlock Batarian Soldier! If a Phantom gets too fresh I'll stay just outside of impale range firing my shotgun and Ballistic Blades. Heavy risk, but the prrriiiizze...

Nope, Bronze, forgot to mention, will have to try Silver/Gold later. I'm still getting used to their playstyle.

Also, their sprinting speed is equal or even greater than the Drell's! But, they cannot roll, but that's not really a huge problem, especially if you're playing as a Krogan/Turian.

EDIT: I just one-hit with heavy melee a Marauder. Still, on Bronze.

You got me super excited at the prospect of 1hkoing Phantoms, then I read that you were playing on bronze. )=

Are we supposed to be surprised by this verdict from somebody who plays nothing but Adepts?

Well, I think that's the standard for most people. I play Silver sometimes, but Bronze when I'm tired at late nights like this one.

This. Got impaled by a Phantom and my armor didn't do a damned thing.

Just did a silver run vs reapers with Batarian maxed out for melee. Geth Plasma Shotgun with blade mod, as well as barrel, and using spiked armor, I took down 4 brutes with nothing but heavy melee!

I ran straight at a Ravager and beat it to death with the butt of my shotgun while it bombarded me with rockets, and still had enough shields to back up my teammates vs. a banshee.

I fear they're gonna nerf it but right now it's amazingly OP and fun to play.

I rarely play Adepts actually. Usually I play Biotics (Adepts or Novaguard) for Reapers only. Most of the time I play a Black Widow or Valiant Infiltrator and a Shotgun Infiltrator as an alternative. But I think all classes are useful on Gold except for Soldiers, they just flat out suck... used to be useful when the Falcon was still good but ever since the nerf they are just useless.

Not saying they can't be played succesfully on gold because every class can but if every other class outscores them vastly (not that the scores are that important but they are a good indication of how much use a player was to the team) and actually does something useful like capping objectives, stripping shields, locking down or distracting enemies, setting up or causing AOE explosions or whatever else it is then something is up.

The game just makes too much use of abilities, especially in teamplay, to rely mostly on weapons and bring nothing else to the table that would benefit the whole team. Which is basically what a Soldier does... rely on weapons and lack skills that are useful for the team.

They don't.

It's pretty much another back-burner class for Gold. Range on Ballistic Blades isn't enough to use it safely, you risk getting close enough to be stunlocked or OHKO'd. They might be *OK* for Geth if you had someone to pick you up when Prime stunlock makes you go splat. Blade Armor doesn't make you tanky enough to survive multiple Pyros.

If you REALLY wanna be a melee powertrain, Krogan Battlemaster and call it a day. Batarian Soldier is strictly a Bronze/Silver character. It's fun on those difficulties, but not viable on Gold.

Found a build on him that I'm currently loving.

6/6/0/6/6

Ballistic Blades: Went for more damage, range and explosion after 3 seconds.
Bladed Armor: Went for Melee damage, damage returned and protection.
Batarian Enforcer: Went for Damage & Capacity, Power Damage, Damage(weapons).
Fitness: Went for Durability, Shield Recharge, Fitness Expert.

Currently I'm sporting a Graal Spike Thrower and falcon punching to victory alongside ballistic blades. Works pretty well.
