i think you can brew potions. create poisons and also make traps however.

Who needs it anyway? Why has it become expected that all adventurers should be able to forge their own weapons? Just because WoW made the whole crafting system popular to give you something to do to keep you forking out the money for their crappy game doesn't mean Dragon Age needs it!

lol blurred, crafting was usually in bioware games. Unusual that it isnt tbh.

Also, there is enchanting. Not sure exactly how it works though.

Usually? Neither Baldur's Gate had it and nor did Neverwinter 1 or SW:KotOR.

I hope you ain't getting confused with SW:KotOR2 and NWN2 cause they ain't Bioware.

Mass Effect doesn't have it nor did Jade Empire. Actually i can't think of any Bioware games that have had it. = /

are you kidding, nwn had crafting.. maybe usually was wrong but.. Kotor did.. if you consider making a light saber crafting >.> haha

I don't think I would call upgrading weapons with components (kotor) Crafting.

Ok, so I was way wrong then. Still NWN the Bioware game I played the most definatly does have crafting.

Frankly, I'm gratefull. Crafting allways seems to be a pain in the ass to me. Not only because if you don't WANT to spend time crafting things, in alot of games crafted gear is head and shoulders above anything you can find.

I have a vague memory of Alchemy in NWN but i'm not being quoted on that, there deffintely wasn't the ability to craft weapons or armor. As for the Light Saber, that was Jewel slotting if anything as it was for all the weapons, just an upgrading system nothing more.

NWN 1 had weapon and armor crafting though not really that important and i found it pretty crappy anyways.

Weird, i can't remember it at all. = / It must have been really ****!JointVW wrote...

Crafting is often fun for the right type of player. In every MMO I've played I've crafted, usually as the main focus of my character. While DA isn't an MMO it's close enough in look and theme for crafting to be expected.

Besides, using a weapon you crafted yourself with your own resources and forged by your own hands using your own skills is much more rewarding then using some pokey stick you found in a box.

Never bothered with it myself, so it's no loss for me. Just felt sort of tedious and boring finding components for it.
But there should be poison and trap making in DA:O, if I remember the skill sets correctly.

I have never used crafting in any of the BioWare (NWN) games. I tried it but found it way too time consuming and too much a trial/error that annoyed me. Granted, I am sure you could have made some excellent armor and the like (the only reason I might have stuck with it was for crafting potions and wands but I never played a caster)Sheylan wrote...

Would it have worked in this game setting? I don't see why not. But since this game was made to be so much different than what is out there it doesn't suprise me nor was I waiting for it to be included.

Yeah but i like realism and i find it hard to believe that, while adventurers would no doubt be able to maintain their weapons, they can all wonder around creating their own swords and armour, in at higher lvls better than master craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to it! I play RPGs for the Story and the Adventure i leave the item building to the pros and get to using it to cut down the great unwashed.

I never liked crafting, either in a computer game or on a tabletop game. It is just boring and does nothing more then well add a little flavor that really will not be used(MMO are the exception) Think for a second would you either
A.)Spend time(range of time varies computer games it is usually instant were tabletop games it is measured in weeks which are also instant but you get the point) making a weapon/armor
or
B.)Discovering the world/killing monsters/finding cool gear and legendary weapons
Leave the crafting to the craftsmen and blacksmiths, my character does not have time for it.

In NWN, as I remember it, you took components to npc smiths, & they did the smithing.
I think crafting your own stuff only makes sense in MMORPGs, like DAOC of long ago. They even had dyes & enamels for customizing the colors of your gear.

I guess this makes sense. The origin is that of a Grey Warden, not an adventurer/travelling blacksmith. I just imagined the mod community adding loads of different crafting options via singleplayer, but it doesn't seem very practical in a single player game.
I mainly played NWN and NWN 2 on persistant worlds, which I'm guessing is going to be impossible with DA:O.
