Mass effect wouldn't be mass effect to me without Jennifer Hale... my wife and I are huge fans of voice actors and know many of the popular voice actors who voice video games anime and everything... I can say honestly that Jennifer Hale delivered the best performance I've ever heard in any media format. Absolutely brilliant Jennifer! Good job and thank you!
Grats to Jennifer Hale!

There are a couple reasons that people like the female Shepard.howieloader wrote...

Maybe it's because she's a chick that people applaud her, I dunno.
Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and agree with this... People going overboard about it doesn't make any sense... I've done the whole Femshep thing, it's not groundbreaking...
First, because the game doesn't do a lot of gender recognition - basically just pronouns, maybe a few line changes - there's a real sense of gender equality. Remember, there is true equality only when people stop noticing a difference. It's feminist, in a sense, but not in a way that bothers people.
Second, Hale puts quite a bit of emotion into her acting. Some people like this, other people don't, but especially in the first and second games she sounds a lot more involved than Meer. Personally, I like it.

i dont get the jennifer hale overlove. i didnt find her performance any better or worse than malesheps. shrug
Same here, I always found her to be overacting just a tad, while Meer kind of underacted. Except for ME3, he was pretty decent then.

Jennifer Hale's is I think seriously underrated. She really deserves a lot of credit. Especially since this is first time they actually kind of advertise a female Shepard with the new Mas Effect. She really deserves some recognition.

Incidentally, would you mind speaking into this nifty little seashell here? What's that? Is this the seashell that Ursula used to steal Ariel's voice in the Little Mermaid? Of course not!

TBH, I liked her work in ME1 better than that in ME2...in the second game, I thought she overdid it (Jacob romance dialogue tone, anyone, ugh!)
But in ME3 she has recaptured the magic of ME1...I always play a Femshep 'cause I love her

Except Diana Aller's VA. She did not seem on par with everyone,
That Elcor you did a mission for had more emotion than her. Sheesh.

Jennifer Hale conveys a sense of urgency and desperation in her voice as she yelled: "James? Normandy? Anyone??!!"
Mark Meer's, by contrast, was a calm: "James? Normandy? Anyone?"
Maybe the voice director felt that a man needs to be calm and in control of his feelings even in dire circumstances, while a woman is allowed to inject more emotions.
Mark has a great range, too, as evident in the vorcha voices as well as the male prostitude in DA2. So I believe the more monotone performance as Maleshep is a result of the voice direction.
