I have played DA:O previously but I am unable to start a new
game. I get the opening cut scene but when it reaches the character creation
screen I can’t create my character. All there is, is a screen with the default
character, there are no buttons to select or move forward into the game. I have
asked for help previously on Origin and they told me to uninstall using these
instructions:

However after reinstalling (via CD) I am still experiencing
the same problem. What else can I do? I have no mods installed if that matters. Also, the demo seems to work fine.

Oh here are my specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
Processor: Intel core2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
DirectX 11
Video card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series

This game's design predates cards similar to yours, with two graphics cores. Try with just one core, if you can.

I tried the game with just one core (I used this method to turn them off: http://masolution.bl...multi-core.html) and it is still not working. I should mention I have tried the installing the newest patch. I also have Awakening and have to same issue.

I forgot to ask what patch level you are running with.

Originally, when I first attempted to start a new game I had installed patch 1.05. I currently don't have any patches installed.

Typically, this happens when you've had some third-party mods installed, which somehow cause a conflict.  If you had mods installed, the first thing to look in this folder (which may not have been cleaned out when you uninstalled):

My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age> packages > core > override

Clean out anything in that folder, restart your computer, and then restart the game.  See if you have success.
