NOTE: PLEASE try not to let this thread be derailed into yet another discussion of ME3's ending. Say what you will about it, but don't let it overtake this thread.

What are some opinions you have about each individual ME game, or the ME universe in general, which are largely not shared by the rest of the fanbase? I'll start:

-Meer's voice acting is better than Hale's.
-Tali is highly overrated and I also found her voice a bit annoying.
-Liara is a Mary-Sue or is very close to being one, especially in ME3. Even Shepard comes very close too on occassion.
-Pretty much all of the human squadmates (Ashley, Kaiden, Jacob, etc) are bland and uninteresting.
-Bioware tried too hard to write Ashley as a "tough female solider" and made her come across as arrogant and reckless, as well as being an archetype first and an organic character second.
-Bioware's human designs are still trapped in the Uncanny Valley, especially when they make facial expressions.
-ME1 had the worst shooting mechanics by far.
-ME2 had too much focus on characters and romances, to the point that the Collectors/Reapers seemed to be more like a sidequest than the main quest.
-Shepard's resurrection at the start of ME2 pretty much destroyed my suspension of disbelief. Even with all of ME's advanced tech, I couldn't buy it bringing back the dead.
-Planet scanning, while not exactly thrilling, was still better than the Mako.
-The Gears of War games still have better shooting gameplay than any of the games, and there's nothing wrong with ME taking inspiration from them to improve its gameplay.
-Making Cerberus an enemy in ME3 felt forced and plot-driven, especially if you were renegade in ME2.
-All of the romances feel forced and cheesy, and the "love scene" is just laughable and even a bit creepy (uncanny valley, again).
-I found it incredibly irresponsible (and nearly suspension-breaking) for Shepard to pursue a romance in ME3, considering there's a massive Reaper invasion underway and only Shepard can stop it. Granted, I may be a bit biased here since I loathe the romances in general.
-Kai Leng was stupidly overpowered and existed more as plot device than an actual character. A villainous Mary Sue, basically.
-Making the Reapers so incredibly powerful from the start pretty much doomed the series to end with a contrived Deus ex Machina or the Reapers winning.

As you can see, I go against BSN on quite a few things. What are some of yours?

ME 3 was heavily slanted towards paragon in the main choices.
I also despised Shepard's resurection ( the need to kill him actually).
I liked the Mako.
Wished Emily Wong was embedded reporter not Allers.
Where is Gianna Parisinni?????

Biggest one: I like the ending of ME3

Other things:
-Tali is highly overrated, yes. I don't mind her voice so much though.
-ME1 had the worst shooting AND gameplay mechanics. I still hate that inventory and modding system.
-ME2's main story did seem more like a side story.
-Planet scanning > Mako
-Hammerhead > Mako
- Reapers chasing you across the galaxy map is fun.
-I actually liked that Jacob cheated on FemShep. It made things more interesting. WHY it had to be the black guy though...idk.

Don't know if this is really unpopular, but I liked Vega.

1. "Mass Effect" never had that much "choice" to begin with.

2. The "Mass Effect" plotline was never that good.

3. Space magic, plotholes, and consistency issues have existed throughout the entire trilogy.

Meh, I'm down the ressurection. It's a railroaded twist that starts all your ME2 problems, rather than one that solves them all.

I'd say Kai Leng was more like a failed/forced villain sue than a legitimate article.

Unpopular opinions of mine:

-Mordins heel turn about the genophage was stupid and ruined his character.
-Allers was kind of cool.
-Everything involving EDI in this game was dumb and seemed shoehorned in to add sex appeal.
-The illusive man plot was pretty good and worked with the back story given by that prothean AI at the end of me1 (indoctrinated fighting against them, sorry cant remember its name V something?)
-Wrex is an ass.

Wrex went from dry and witty in ME1 to predictable and on liney in ME3
The meme integration, while funny sometimes, in ME3 was annoying
The eyes are WAY too weird in ME3
People not liking Jacob cheating - wait you can do it but not other characters? pfft.
Hale's voice acting is better than Meer's, 'specially if you're renegade
Of course decisions were slanted towards Paragon, Paragon is more heroic
Kaidan is a much better character than people give him credit for
So is Vega
and Jacob

I don't like Garrus as a romance option. Not saying it shouldn't be there, but I tried romancing him, and it felt way weird to me. He is my best bro, nothing more.

I agree with all of these.

I...

- Love Kaidan and Ashley
- Prefer human squadmates over aliens
- Can spell Kaidan's name correctly
- Loved the Mako
- Don't really like Tali
- Find Liara okay, but nothing special
- Didn't really emotionally connect to anyone in ME2
- Think ME2 was the worst of the trilogy
- Think ME3 was the best of the trilogy
- Find that my Shepard looked the worst in ME2
- Don't think Asari are attractive
- Don't think any of the aliens are attractive
- Liked the dog
- Play as a Soldier
- Only use the M-3 Pistol and M-8 Assault Rifle
- Never change the default armor
- Only play on Normal difficulty
- Don't like the Quarians much
- Don't have a problem with Tali's face
- Like that the VS doubts Shepard a bit
- Still love Bioware
- And ME3 is my favorite game of all time

A lot of what you said, OP, are common opinions.

Agree with 1 and 3, vehemently disagree with 2.

Oh and I also think the Catalyst's logic made sense.

I really like Kaidan and Ashley as characters and squadmates.
Everytime I do Virmire, I die a little inside.
In almost every playthrough I have done, Kaidan dies on Virmire.
I have yet to use a file with alive Kaidan in it in ME 3.
I don't hate any character in particular.

You know what, I agree. The character writing made it all worth it though.

-The weapons and ammo system in ME2/ME3 are much more fun than the ME1 System. ME1 is unplayable to me these days as a result. The whole concept of having 15 effing different guns of each class followed by each type being further divided into 10 different levels which somehow magically start appearing as you rise in level was not fun. Also too, the different models of each gun felt the same even if one did more damage/had a higher rate of fire etc.

You know, I didn't hate or like him. I thought he was okay. But like everyone else, I though his sacrifice was boss.

I dislike the Quarians in general. They're just BSG with a slightly different storyline. Tali is boring. Their leadership is 100% idiotic.

I didn't really ever like any of the human squadmates except for Miranda. The rest could die and I literally wouldn't miss a step.

Planet Scanning was a sound, enjoyable mechanic in ME2; I liked the control ending, made you feel like one omnipotent heroine; I preferred the old Ash and thought the new one was actually ugly, obnoxious and annoying with that Shepard crap; despite greatly liking Liara, I wasn't too fond of her voice acting, though it's reasonably good; ME1 shooting mechanics were horrid; I actually liked the inclusion of MP, it's pretty enjoyable, except for heavily associating it with SP and forcing it down our throats ( popular opinion, lol ); FemShep's voice acting sucked at times, especially in ME3; I hated Wrex's voice acting; Mordin is the most badass character in the series.

Thanks for the responses, all. Keep 'em coming.

I just thought of a few more to add:

-Bioware should have pretended that thermal clips have always been in use and retconned that into ME1, instead of writing the change directly into the story.
-Making Garrus and Tali romanceable in ME2 felt forced and a betrayal of their ME1 characterization.

- I liked Ashley. Even if I let her die on Virmire.
- I like the inventory system of ME1, though I don't really miss it.
- I love the multiplayer and think it was a great addition.
- I like the galaxy-at-war system, had it been better implemented (so that it doesn't force multiplayer), it could have been revolutionary.
- I know the difference between a plothole and things I don't like or didn't understand in the story. The game's ending has both. But not all things I don't like or understand are plotholes.
