NOTE: PLEASE try not to let this thread be derailed into yet another discussion of ME3's ending. Say what you will about it, but don't let it overtake this thread.

What are some opinions you have about each individual ME game, or the ME universe in general, which are largely not shared by the rest of the fanbase? I'll start:

-Meer's voice acting is better than Hale's.
-Tali is highly overrated and I also found her voice a bit annoying.
-Liara is a Mary-Sue or is very close to being one, especially in ME3. Even Shepard comes very close too on occassion.
-Pretty much all of the human squadmates (Ashley, Kaiden, Jacob, etc) are bland and uninteresting.
-Bioware tried too hard to write Ashley as a "tough female solider" and made her come across as arrogant and reckless, as well as being an archetype first and an organic character second.
-Bioware's human designs are still trapped in the Uncanny Valley, especially when they make facial expressions.
-ME1 had the worst shooting mechanics by far.
-ME2 had too much focus on characters and romances, to the point that the Collectors/Reapers seemed to be more like a sidequest than the main quest.
-Shepard's resurrection at the start of ME2 pretty much destroyed my suspension of disbelief. Even with all of ME's advanced tech, I couldn't buy it bringing back the dead.
-Planet scanning, while not exactly thrilling, was still better than the Mako.
-The Gears of War games still have better shooting gameplay than any of the games, and there's nothing wrong with ME taking inspiration from them to improve its gameplay.
-Making Cerberus an enemy in ME3 felt forced and plot-driven, especially if you were renegade in ME2.
-All of the romances feel forced and cheesy, and the "love scene" is just laughable and even a bit creepy (uncanny valley, again).
-I found it incredibly irresponsible (and nearly suspension-breaking) for Shepard to pursue a romance in ME3, considering there's a massive Reaper invasion underway and only Shepard can stop it. Granted, I may be a bit biased here since I loathe the romances in general.
-Kai Leng was stupidly overpowered and existed more as plot device than an actual character. A villainous Mary Sue, basically.
-Making the Reapers so incredibly powerful from the start pretty much doomed the series to end with a contrived Deus ex Machina or the Reapers winning.

As you can see, I go against BSN on quite a few things. What are some of yours?

Disagree on two things. I love the mako, and I like Miranda.

Also, EDI is awful in this game.

Also, I hate the quarians.

Oooh, I haven't played those, so I can't compare. I don't know if I'd like them but maybe I should check them out. There are many games that people refer to here on the forums, that I am totally unaware of (I am 46...well 47 this year, and a woman...so I guess I'm not the "typical gamer", and I do not keep up with games).

Oh, there is another thing that I realized people (according to the inertnet) seem to not have liked - at all,
it was the Demo of ME3. I enjoyed it so very much, and I was so happy that I downloaded it the day before the release (I don't keep up as you can tell)!  ...but then, I got disappointed all in all. Anyway, I loved the Demo of ME3 :D

Introducing romancing Tali/Garrus in ME2 (basically any non-Asari alines) cause of the whole 'wah wah i want to roleplay romance with aliens completely incompatible at a BIOLOGICAL level' fans.

Sure there were plenty of great dialog exchanges between Shep and those characters, but the same quality narratives could have been achieve (and they were) without the completely implausible romances.

For the same reason you couldn't ever romance Krogan, they shouldn't have let you romance space-raptors and germaphobic space-goats.

I don't feel like ALL of the Voice Actors in ME3 are stiff.  Some of them are just natural since especially when it comes to things like on screen film/tv style acting, you can't be too over the top or it becomes unrealistic.  I will say some of Mark Meer's voice acting seemed a bit off at times, especially with Steve crashing in the end and the sudden change from "STEVE!" to "You sure?"  It made me laugh out loud.

But I will say this: Holy crap, Bulletstorm was a game with horrible voice acting.  I just played the demo, and I mean they may have been animated but SERIOUSLY, the writing...oh god the writing...even characters in GTA4 didn't swear like that.  They swore so much it would make a sailor want to was his mouth out with soap.  There's only so much swearing I can take before it seems unecessary.

-Though I loved the Citadel shooting scene, the Garrus bromance felt forced for a majority of the trilogy.
-Ammo gathering will always seem like a step backwards in technology. I hate it.
-Meer > Hale.
-A lot of characters are walking Bioware cliches. (Doesn't mean I like them any less, though.)

- The morality system is poorly done. Oftentimes Paragon is a goodie-two-shoes whereas Renegade is just being a dick for no reason.
- Most of the alien designs are bland and uninteresting
- The relationships post ME1 feel silly and contrived. The sex scenes are like watching two mannequins rub against each other.
- Romancing alien squadmates other than Liara is disgusting.
- ME1 isn't a great RPG. Almost every game play mechanic is clunky.
- The multiplayer is one of the best horde modes I have ever played.

I agree with all of these.  Particularly point 1.  I find that a Shepard who makes both paragon and renegade choices has a lot more character, but the other games shoe horn you into going down a singular side of the morality system.  Though, it is far better than most morality systems that tend to be even more black and white.

Re: Liara.  I think it is pretty hilarious that she pretty much has eyebrows.  She's one of two Asari to have that 'facial feature', but it really makes her a lot more human looking than other Asari.

Speaking of the voice acting. The first time my 78 y/o mother heard my FemShep, my mother said "She's got a great voice!"

I've dragged my mother into this story, almost every time she's visited LOL so maybe I should ask her what she feels about the male voice (it'd be fun to hear her opinion as a 78 y/o) :)

Hale has her bad moments too.  The worst voice acting and animation moments seem to happen right at the very beginning though.  That line 'That, and your good word?' has the weirdest animation and is delivered horribly by both Hale and Meer.  Makes me cringe every time I get to that line in the intro sequence.

I'm just curious about your take on the romances, since you're the second one to bring it up and it never even occurred to me.  Are romances only acceptable if they involve the possibility of reproduction?  And does that include EDI and Joker as well?

-The Mako was my baby, even if I couldn't drive it for crap.
-I don't like Thane
-I don't like the Garrus/Femshep romance.
-I was determined to hate EDI in ME3 but I adore her now.
-I found the ME2 planet scanning to be soothing... for a time.
-I always leave Ash to die on Virmire because in my first, newbie, run of ME she killed Wrex. Now it feels wrong to me if she lives.
-I like Kaidan a lot. He pisses me off sometimes, but so do people I know IRL, and I don't hate them for that.
-I don't like how many humanoid aliens there are. Not sure if it was meant to make the player more emotionally attached to them or what. I feel like there should be more races such as the elcor and hanar.
-I used to like Jacob.
-I can only see Femshep as straight, whereas Manshep is bisexual for some reason.

Hmmmmmmmm. Despite thinking that the OP needs to find other synonyms for Mary Sue. . . I'll go with it.

I ****ing love the Mako. Most seem to hate it, but I absolutely adore it and miss it.
I like Jack, and have always liked Jack.
Also, never really saw what was so great about Tali. She's kind of bland.

Honestly, the opening to ME3 is just as bad as the ending, but in different ways, and no one notices it because it wasn't the last thing they saw.

And that's about all I can muster.

1. The Hammerhead was awesome
2. Never liked Tali, never used her in the first game and didn't care when she died on the suicide mission in the second (my Mass effect 3 run was Tali-less
3. I would have loved an ending where Shepard became the new head of Cerberus and a tyrant
4. I liked and respected Udina FAR more than Anderson and made him a council member in my first ME 1 (I thought it was dumb they made him a traitor because for some reason you can't have a jerk who is not evil)
5. I rather sit around and just talk with characters and read the codex than fight battles
6. I thought the reapers were better off with some kind of master mind in control of them (just not the starkid)
7. Aria is extremely lame
8. I hate how Bioware memes up so many of their games (it ruined half the dialog in DA2 for me)
9. I hated my ME3 squad
10. I think Archer is a far more sympathetic than David and it was dumb how Shepard was forced to hate him
11. I think Asari come across as arrogant and condescending

-I loved the Mako idea, but found the physics to be annoying. Would have prefered the Mako maps, but with the Hammerhead.
-I loved the plannet scanning. It fleshes out the game. I also tend to read all the "planet histrory" text when you orbit a planet.
-I disliked Kaidan. Whiney little girl, real men dont cry! So he gets fried on Virmire every time.
-Quarians are cool, although I'm no Talimancer.
-I think the genophage was needed, and warrented. In fact, I replayed from Me1, killing wrex, and destroying Malons data so that I can save Mordin.
- Mordin was my favorite character.
- Liara is my LI, because she has the same eyes as my highschool crush.
- Vega is lame. Found him shallow, and uninteresting, and would much prefer one of the ME2 squaddies.
-Traynor was ok, I guess, but what was wrong with Kelly? She danced for you in your CABIN!!
-I only found the toilet to my cabin on the normand in ME3, when a cutscean showed it to me. (very much a WTF moment).
-I liked all the races, but found they stuck a little too closely to steriotypes.
-Being forced to go full paragon / renegade blows. sometimes I feel like letting them go, sometimes I feel like shooting them in the foot.
-ME1 was my favorite, because it was so unexpectedly good.
-ME2 was great, and huge (loved the loyalty missions), but the bringing back from dead thing was something that always got to me,
-Me3 is  great at bringing you emmotions into the story, but I feel I've lost control of my Shepard to Bioware can make their movie. ME3 is the most emmotional of the games, but the worst "game" in terms of interactivity. Best shooting mechanics, but ME3 should be more than cover based shooting, IMHO.

- Neither voice actors were that good
- Legion is the best character in the series
- Bioware are mediocre universe builders at best
- Baulder's gate 2 was their peek
- Admiral Hackett is a good character and if he had been the starchild (uhm starman?) it would have made it a little better as a reflection of his character
- Dragon Age Origins felt like a second rate Warhammer Fantasy copy
- Had the starchild been Christopher Lee instead (and voice acted by Christopher Lee) I would have bought the ending
- All the endings are good in concept (more or less anyway)

-I'd actually rate Jacob as one of my top favorite characters. Real interesting dude if you talk to him

-I would like Vega more if it wasn't for the fact he threw in random Spanish words. I'm latin myself and I don't know anyone in my family who would do that. Not seriously of course.

-I was a little creeped out by Liara constantly wanting to meld my mind with her's in ME1. The only reason I agreed to was to seem agreeable and to advance the plot.

-I could see the logical reasons behind Udina and the Council not believing Shepard in ME1 and would be dissappointed if they did.

-I could see why Udina joined up with Cerberus in ME3, makes perfect sense to me

-I never liked the "and this is my favorite store on the citadel" thing. It seemed like a dick move to me. At least the renegade solutions were somewhat clever.

-I was surprised by how much crap Shepard took from Aria. Shepard takes crap from no one. Letting a Batarian tell you he'll throw me out an airlock. Give me a break.

-I believe Mass Effect 2's strength lies in it's hub planets, Omega and Illium. Loyalty missions were alright, but those two places were the most interesting thing about ME2 and had the most ME1 cameos.

-With that said, I'm okay with no hub worlds in ME3. Are you really gonna throw a few back on Illium while there's Reapers outside? Nah, didn't think so

-I also thought auto dialogue was a step in the right direction. All too often in ME1 and 2 I would walk to to a squad mate, bring up the dialogue wheel and they'd have nothing to say. That didn't happen in this game, the character's always had something to say. I really liked that.

-Joker is too serious in ME1, too whiney in ME2 (we got an AI?!?! WAAAAH!, that was his dialogue half the game), and too horny in ME3. He's an alright character, but he gets on my nerves sometimes.

-Anderson is repetitive. He seriously says the same thing over and over again and does that stupid slap my fist on my palm thing that every character in Mass Effect just HAD to do.
5:55 in the video for an example

-I felt no pity for the Geth or Quarians. They both made their own beds. The Geth for joining the Reapers and the Qurians for creating and fighting the Geth.

-Only reason the genophage was cured is because I didn't want to shoot Mordin. I just know the Krogan are going to be a pain in the ass later.

-Honestly the only reason I was a Paragon is because I AM a goody two shoes and I don't like hurting people. I didn't think the Paragon solutions were the best ones. Such as the Rachni.

-Playing as a Renegade is funny, playing as a Paragon is emotionally satisfying.

-The calibrations joke should've stayed on YouTube and the forums

-Jacob and Miranda's romance arcs are honestly the least cheap romance arcs in ME2

aaand finally

-Scanning wasn't that bad. Maybe it's just because I like the sounds. "Probe away"

Now tell me what you do like. Jeez I'd hate to see some of you get real critical or anything.  Though I will add I miss the film Grain and wish I could holster my weapon in ME3.  Enjoyed the games immensely dozens of careers on my 4th one in ME3 now.

Opinions I have I think may be unpopular:

1. I like the Mako and miss ME1-style resource collection.
2. "Destroy" is the worst ending, even if Shepard lives.
3. Aria may be badass, but she's boring as a character.
4. I never liked Anderson much and hate his forced "mentor" status in the ME3 ending.
5. I wish Garrus and Tali were not in the games.
6. Interspecies sex is a horrible idea.
7. I like Jacob as an LI for femShep in ME2. Apart from a certain line, he has the most mature romance.
8. The Illusive Man is a tragic character.

Wow, I agree with almost all of these. Only major differences: Tali's voice is sexy (although she's a worthless squadmate), Liara is not a Mary-Sue (although Shepard kind of is for the whole series), ME3 gameplay finally caught up with GoW, Jacob was definitely boring (but with Pull and squad incendiary ammo, a pretty useful squadmate).

-Tali is WAY more close minded that Ash
-I didn't find Javik to be annoying.
-I liked Vega and Jacob
-Emily Wong was not that big of a deal and I don't care shes dead.
-Multiplayer SUCKS!!!!
-Kelly is a horrible character and Traynor is so much better.
-I hate Steve, well not really him but the fact there's always some excuse as to why he leaves you in battle.

ME2 Jack > ME3 Jack.
ME1 was hardly the RPG people make it out to be. It just had loot.
Garrus wasn't very interesting before Mass Effect 3.
Wrex is a dumb hick.
EDI is the best, most useful squadmate in ME3.
Outside of the novelty of being a non-hostile talking Geth, Legion has no real depth.
ME2 is the best game of the series by a substantial margin.

- I love Jack and was alittle disappointed that she was pushed to a minor character in Mass Effect 3. She's such a great character...
- I never liked Tali all that much and think she's overrated. Barely took her on my missions too.
- Miss the Hammerhead. Thought it was thousand times better than the Mako.
- I actually like Vega :o
- Found Mass Effect 3 to still be a great game, even with the 'ending'.
- Still loves Bioware and remembers that they're human... JUST LIKE US!!! Image IPB

I don't know how many times I've heard the same excuse. "If I was flying my old trident" He leaves at Grissom Academy, gets shot down at the Cerberus base, I honestly don't know what time he did anything useful.
