Did you mean this Poll? Because they number for given votes under it says only 5000. And on a Sidenote, never trust the Numbers that you get from the Bild, especially not those Claims of 12 Million people "reached" which is nothing else than PR-BS.

Yeah, "Bild" is not the best source to work with here. ;)

There was a poll at gamestar.de with a lot more differentiation and about 25k participants. I would think it quite representative, as it is limited to German speaking PC gamers who visit gamestar. [No, I have not studied statistics, but I think it provides an acceptable sample.]

The question was: How do you like the finale [of Mass Effect 3]?

Results:
3.4 % liked the ending and expected such an ending.
6.0 % liked it, though being not what they expected.
10.0% were okay with it, but said it could have been better.
19.6% had not finished the game by the time of the poll.
8.5% were dissappointed with the ending.
57.3% said, it destroyed the franchise for them.

i used the "bild" example, because of its broader audience. but in fact the results are quite close to each other.

roughly 10% liked the ending, 10 % are indifferend and about 65% were dissapointed or worse. i wold call that an indicator.

and btw. gamestar is the bildzeitung of gaming.

I wish, gamestar were the bottom line of gaming journalism... but we have Computer Bild Spiele, sadly. ;)

But in the end, yeah, for actual critical gaming journalism you can bet your soul, that gamestar is as tame as a teethless hamster. Worse, they actually put up a column to defend their misinformation on the ending.

The only fair take on ME3 so far, was by Angry Joe. Not bashing it for its ending, but analysing the flaws and merits of the game.

Ill say Gratz for BioWare, OP one thing I have a problem with is the fact that your taking numbers from 2 different "polls" and comparing them. So its nothing but trolling. Most people dont come on forums to post that they were upset with the ending, same with that they liked the ending.

Anyway from the poll that you got the 100k from or 60k whatever the number is now I have no idea since I stopped caring after BioWares response. The majority to that poll is the people unsatisfied with the ending. You really think anyone is going to go out of their way to find out the actual number of disappointed people with the ME3 ending, hell EA would probably stop people from doing it since it would smear BioWares rep even more.

Anyway my main point is you can't take things at face value, there are always differences. Saying that the 60k that actually went to the BioWare website to voice their opinion is the only people out of the 1.5 mil units sold that didn't like the ending is being ignorant.

I will never understand how people can so arrogantly make such claims while they don't understand population sampling in the slightest.

Just because only a fraction of people are vocally part of the retake movement and on these forums and junk doesn't mean that that fraction of the player base makes up the entirety of the percentage of players unhappy about the ending. Thats not how sampling works. At all. In fact its the complete opposite. You sample the percentage of the entire vocal minority of the fanbase, weather they're satisfied or not, and you'll see a very solid majority of them being in the unhappy camp. Via population sampling we can safely assume with statistical probability that the overall player base shares approximately the same percentage difference.

I know what, lets have an arguement about something no one can prove, huh?  What i will say, you're wrong.  Why are you wrong - because i'm saying you're wrong and thus you have no way to discredit my claim.

Alternatively, i'll just conjure up some words and make it appear that my words carry more weight because i say so.

Montenegro and Serbia aren't listed as options. What country do you list if you're from there? I don't think people would be happy with saying they're from neigboring areas.

C'mon, John!

if this is where the OP is getting the numbers: http://games.ign.com.../1222704p1.html
this is an estimate for the US only, in the month of march.

Do you think someone from the Czech Republic would rather say they're from Slovakia or Czechoslovakia if those were the only two options?

Anyway, that's not really the point. The list of provided countries is not perfect. Big deal. It's nitpicking at its finest.

Apparently 3.5 million Mass Effect 3 copies were shipped, not sold, 1.5 million seems too low of a number so the actual sales number is probably 2 million-3.1 million sold.

Promote that man.  To the top.

And while they're at it, Ray M can retire.  Casey should find a new job.  The way he's posted lately, Stanley too.  Sorry.

Nope, I was too forward and outspoken, and crossed the new "site rules of conduct".   After all is said and done, I can't muster up enough feeling to be really disappointed

Looking at that thread I see no reason for them to have acted like they did.

Something tells me nerves and frustrations are running thin up at Bioware/EA at the moment.

I can't imagine it being all that great for the moderators now, with the stiffling implication of not daring saying anything that could be interpreted wrong by the 'overlords'...

Are they trying to kill their own community?

Damn that sucks. But it kinda shows that the new site rules being made right before the launch really wasn't a coincidence.

1.5m isn't very impressive for a AAA title, especially after trying to appeal to everyone. A deep, complex single-player RPG like Skyrim sold far more than that, so maybe they should have tried to appeal to the RPG audience afterall. But instead of using Skyrim as an example, they looked to Call of Duty.

Yeah, and you know *sighs* the thing about it is that fans were desperately trying to tell them Don't Do It.

But EA wants that market, or at least some of it. I don't blame them for wanting some of the C.O.D. market, but fans were trying to tell them that C.O.D. market just doesn't love ME like that.

Granted, there are quite a few that cross over and enjoy both games, but for the most part C.O.D. players just aren't interested in Mass Effect. They like what they have for alot of different reasons.

EA did so much to try and target that market, it was almost painful to watch. MP was really unnecessary. It turned out to be a nice addition to ME, imo, but they put alot of time and resources into it---trying to pique the interest of the C.O.D. audience. And to put it in the last game of a triology that was always SP...Really? Now you want to do that? Right now? Right now?

Vega, who I like well enough, was included to appeal to that market. A spot which really should have been for a ME2 character.

Marketing was trying to publicly downplay any RPG elements in the game, "we don't want to go down the RPG rabbit hole. There's a war on!" Fight, fight. Shoot, shoot.

The so-called early demo of ME3 went to Battlefield customers because EA thought they could go through a back door to sneak up on C.O.D. players.

They spent a fortune in marketing hyping up the game. Perhaps they figured they could buy their success. Totally forgetting the power of word of mouth. And the fact that gamers memories aren't as short as you think.

Meanwhile, fans were standing back watching in something akin to horror as BW/EA went galloping with a giddy delirium over a cliff. The whole time fans were yelling, "Stop! It's a trap!" But no. We don't know what we're talking about. So, okay. Fine. Go barreling off the cliff.

Instead of cultivating their base,( the ones that buy their books; comics; action figures; shirts....Swag) they tried to twist themselves into something they weren't to get the attention of a group that doesn't want them.

EA, no means no. They way you've been stalking the C.O.D. fanbase, they're gonna end up slapping a restraining order on you.

And it seems they pretty much figured their core base would swallow anything they served up. Took them for granted. Really. They forgot which side their bread is buttered on.

I would love to see Mass Effect succesful. If I had things my way, everyone would try Mass Effect because I think it's that cool.

But be who you are. There is a strong market for quality, Action/RPG's. A market that is being ignored because all publishers want to see is FPS, or Gears of War.

Like when Twilight was so popular. Everybody went chasing after friggin' vampires. Vampires! Everywhere!

Enough with the identity crisis. Embrace your inner nerd. There's alot of us out here....facepalming right now.

Very well put.  EA needs to stop!  They've pretty much destroyed this franchise.  All I wanna know is...why?  WHY now?  WHY THE THIRD GAME?  Couldn't they have waited until this beloved trilogy was over, a spin off perhaps, before running the IP utterly into the ground and defiling it repeatedly?  As you can tell I'm not very impressed with EA, and a part of me wants to believe that Casey and Mac ran the story into the ground on purpose to prevent EA from exploiting Mass Effect any further.

Edit: I seriously hope the BW devs leave and start their own indy studio so they can be free from EA.
