I am in the West Brecilian Forest and have found a tombstone, but my only option is to "leave it alone". Am I not supposed to be able to disturb it yet?
Mage's Treasure - 1st tombstone - cannot disturb it?

You have to disturb a different one, first.

What Taleroth said is true. I just played through that scene myself and you need to go to another one first for the one you are at to work.

Correct, the first tombstone which allow you to break the ward is at the northern area of the East Brecillian Forest. After that, you can return to "disturb" the tombstone in the West Brecillian Forest.

I think there are two classes of tombstone. Ones with some sort of writing and some without. You have to view the ones with writing to even know what they are, first.Maria Caliban wrote...

From a quest design standpoint, it does seem kind of arbitrary, yeah.

Yes, you have to "unlock" them. It's a quest for the Juggernaut armor. I unlocked the quest after getting the chest piece in the elven tomb.

You can actually defile it before the other one if you try enough times. Just keep clicking on it until it forgets to go into the cutscene.

I typically get it after poking the northern grave in the East Bricellian Forest, back track to the West to drop off the acorn later and hit that grave, then back to East and the one beyond the barrier. Elven tomb is always the last one for me. But making it so we have to get one of the other three first when it's guaranteed we'll come across that one first is... odd.

I've never completed the Juggy armor. I keep missing the chest piece as I always have the damn gloves and greaves/boots guaranteed. Sometimes I get the helmet or maybe I do and just sell it because usually helmets aren't needed for the set bonus..

Esbatty the chestpiece is found in the ruins themselves in a room where you encounter a female spirit standing next to an open coffin. The coffin contains a codex and the chest piece.

Of course, that room is locked by another quest that's only slightly explained. So that's probably what stopped you.

That quest is very well explained. In a codex entry. Don't *you* obsessively read codex entries?

Oh sure. It's also been awhile since I needed to. I have the whole system memorized. But the first time? Codex entry didn't seem to help much.
