They already put "teh gayz" in the game, could you REALLY imagine the backlash from the Christies if THAT conversation got put in as well?

Seriously, it'd be be ridiculous. Just off the charts ridiculous.

tbh as a agnostic i can care less about religion in a game becaus ei have the option of just not talking to ashley let alone romance her

same can be said for people who dont like the idea of same sex romances

no ones forcing you to go to that specific thing in the game

i think just because its a political year people may start assuming the worst really

I'm an atheist, so I don't care either. But the Christies WOULD care, they'd get all up in arms and Fox would scream about how BioWare hates God and blah blah blah. We all remember what happened in ME1 with just the slightest hint of blue boob, this would be a thousand times worse.

It's really sad. They handled Cortez really well, and I think they handled Ashley really well in the first one. Shame to see them drop the ball like this with her in this one. If you're going to show a universe that is accepting of everyone, then stand up and show a universe that is accepting of everyone. Where was their "artistic vision" when it came time to decide whether or not to include this?

Artistic integrity = No provocation of religious groups

Also they should really do an actual Director's Cut with all these cuts contents included. They probably make up for hours.

Uh....How is this anti christian? Did people actually look at the whole scene? Shepard says he doesn't remember anything and that he doesn't know, and then they talk about how they can't answer the "big question". Even the article on that page is completely inaccurate. He says NOTHING about there being "no afterlife". He says he doesn't remember, and doesn't know the answer.

As one of those "christ ****s", I don't have the faintest clue what you're talking about. I think this was a beautiful scene. Who wouldn't want to talk to someone who had died and come back, to see what, if anything, they remembered. There's nothing in there that's anti-religion. I would have been more upset if they did try to put in some cornball white light, or meeting God and having it turn out to be a little kid that... oh wait, never mind. :P It's a shame that this was cut, I think it would have offered more insight into a character that doesn't get a whole lot of interaction, especially for being a possible love interest.

This.

I think some people with an axe to grind with religion are overreacting.

The scene doesn't take a stance one way or the other. It neither denies nor confirms an existence of God, Gods, or some form of an afterlife. Shepard tells Ashley that he doesn't remember anything, when specifically asked if there is an afterlife, Shepard says he doesn't know. Basically in the scene Shepard says that he has the same perspective as every other person in the universe on whether or not there is something greater than a mortal existence.

What's so controversial with that scene? Shepard really doesn't know "what" came back (especially in the context with conversation with Miranda).

It would be interesting to check "real" Lazarus project and to see how much memories would be preserved, how much personality.

Fake or not, that totally should have been in the game.

That was a nice scene, it was a shame it got cut because nobody really talks about Shepard's resurrection other than in the Cerberus lab. I don't see how it could be offensive to religious people as he doesn't specifically say there's no afterlife (and why would there be, what kind of loving god would create the reapers, or the ME3 ending?? But I digress...) I'm interested to see what other cut content people have dug up, has anyone got any more links?

There were a number of deeper conversations cut from the leaked script. As awesome as they were, I imagine the extensive amount of auto-dialogue would have made them lose their beef a little bit.

For things like that to work within an avatar owned game like ME, you really need to have a lot of options in dialogue to express your views, opinions on what you or your avatar would like to say.

As the interest in ME3 was more about BioWare telling Shepards last story (at least from the dialogue available to them), I'm glad it was cut. If my Shep started spouting something that went against what my ME1 Shep established - I'd be annoyed.

I've always been disappointed that you can't bring up your shepards religious views in ME2 and 3, as in ME1 you can very clearly choose wether or not your shepard is religious, and i made mine religious.

Yeah, I thought they handled that very well, generally speaking though, I thought there were a lot of key moments in ME1 where dialogue choice was handled far better than ME2 or ME3. The religious conversation with Ash was a great example of that.

Its a shame they didn't explore Shepards character (the character the player created for Shepard) further. By the end of ME3, I realised that I never felt like it was my Shepard. During ME1 and ME2 it was always my character that I had created - now Im a participant in the last game of BioWares Shepard.

To be fair, whether or not Shepard is 'religious' depends on your own personal head canon even when picking the line that indicates Shepard believes in life after death. Shepard just asks Ashley if she's heard the old saw about there not being any atheists in foxholes, and then adding that he's been in a lot of foxholes. But plenty of people who are not necessarily religious also believe in an afterlife, and may even pray on occasion.

I chose that line but I view my Shepard as being like most people, in that he believes in life after death but isn't devout. As a younger Marine he was the type that was more likely to be spending his Sunday afternoon nursing the previous night's hangover, rather than praying in a Church pew. But when his life was on the line and he was weathering a Batarian artillery barrage during the Skyllian Blitz, maybe he gritted his teeth, squeezed the stock of his rifle and murmured to himself, "Yea do I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil..."

In short, he was kind of like this guy at 1:49.

Hello Deacath
It is normal that you can't get what he is talking about. you are part of the vast majority of religious people that are actually fine with others peoples belief being different .
What cheesy blue is referring is to the slim majority that will save you despite yourself even if its kills you.

So yes it is not right to tar all religious people with the same brush.
Yes it is a really good scene
But yes I can see it leading to a bible basher and bible burner uproar.

Phil

This scene is beautiful. I can see where some people would have some apprehension, but when first reading it seeing this, I didn't overreact and I am a believer. Bioware should have left it in, but only if there would be similar dialogue options to ME1 and handled like they did back then.

p.s. screw Fox news!!!

Speaking as a Christian myself, I'd have to disagree.  The scene very clearly and specifically makes no claims about the existence or non-existence of an afterlife.  Shepard just doesn't remember anything.

I don't see the problem with this scene, it makes sense and don't go against anyone's belief.
