 At first I thought it was a one-time crash, but it happened twice in a row. Crashed as soon as I got to class selection on a new character.

Which renders the game I paid for pretty useless. This is really weird. My old laptop could run ME2 half-decently while on the verge of a hard drive crash. This new one shouldn't be having any problems whatsoever. Just downloaded through Origin, if that makes any difference.

My specs:
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50 GHz
  • Clock speed: 2483 MHz
  • Physical Memory: 7.89 GB
  • Display Adapter: Intel ® HD Graphics Family
  • VRAM: -256813056 bytes [WTF???]
  • Driver Version: none listed, inexplicably. I did just install something from ATI to make ME2 able to start running in the first place.
  • Driver Version [Not sure why there are two listed]: 6.0.1.6353
  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Direct X 10.0

You have an Intel on-board graphics chipset with only 256Mb Ram. You need a dedicated graphics card to run the game properly.

"Newness" has never been a proper measure of any product's performance capability. You obviously downgraded from whatever the older PC had been to a cheaper video system. Intel video has zero VRAM of its own. It steals memory from the main system, which is far slower than what a dedicated graphics card runs on its attached memory.

                    ME2

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Hard Drive = 15 GB
DVD ROM = 1x Speed
Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible
Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input = Keyboard / Mouse
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater(**); ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.205, G.210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9100, 9200, and 9300, also (probably) GT 520/610; ATI Radeon X1300, X1550, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4380, 4550, and (probably) HD 6370 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

(**)Two of the Geforce 6800s are worse than the next-lower Geforce game card, the 6600 GT, and should be avoided (6800 SE, 6800 XT).

Ugh. This is bull****. Dell is getting an angry call from yours truly. I did not just shell out all this money just for my games to not work.
