Songs of the North is about to launch in the coming months, and we are seeking roleplayers and DM storytellers like you to share in the adventure!

What can I expect in Songs of the North?
SotN is a roleplaying persistent world where the focus is really on the player-characters themselves, their interactions with the world, and the choices they make. Our DMs shape and adapt story events based on what players choose to do, and we reward player initiative and exceptional roleplay above all else. Songs of the North has grown out of several different projects, taking the best ideas and philosophies from reach, and re-imagining them in a bold new world.
What's the setting of Songs in the North?
The setting is a fictional island in the Forgotten Realms, similar in size to real-world Ireland. This mist-covered land is both secluded and remote, surrounded by a powerful magical force called The Veil which shrouds it from the eyes of Gods and magi. Strange forces unknown to Faerun haunt it's dark forests and rocky shores.
What's progression like in Songs of the North?
Slow but steady. We want players to always feel like they are moving forward, but SotN is not a server where you will be epic level within a month. Players who fight enemies less often will find they earn bonus xp when they eventually do, as we have a "rest" system in place to narrow the gap between players who can play all the time, and those that play infrequently.
What races are available in Songs of the North?
We have most of the standard races available, but in SotN we are willing to create new races as well based on exceptional roleplay and storytelling. If you really want to play that kobold, an excellent roleplayer will find this option actually open to them; keep in mind that we will not approve anything that does not fit the setting however, and that nonstandard races are meant to be rare and require a truly exceptional character story.
What classes are available in Songs of the North?
We have all standard classes and also include most of Kaedrin's PRC pack (a few classes from the PRC pack have been disabled for lore or gameplay reasons). Some classes are freely open for anyone to level in, but others, usually those with special lore or RP requirements, require approval first.
Core Philosophies of Songs of the North
Players can change the world.
You, yes you, can change the face of SotN forever, leaving a lasting mark upon the unique history of the server. Nothing is ever completely set in stone. Cities rise and fall, characters will live and die, and what was once the status quo yesterday may completely change overnight due to excellent roleplay and player initiative. Run for political office, start a mage tower to explore the mysteries of the multiverse, burn a village to the ground; Songs of the North is a dynamic world.
Adventure, adventure, adventure.
We're still recruiting DMs, but we plan to have a lot of them. DM-run events are the heart and soul of the Songs of the North experience. Scheduled events for the players with limited playtime, and ad-hoc events for those who like to hang around, there's something for everyone. Some events are one-off short adventures, others are long multi-event story arcs that react and change to player choices and actions.
Roleplayers before powerplayers. Now to be fair, "powergaming" is not always a dirty word. There's nothing wrong with having an effective character sheet, as long as it makes sense. But when the cards are down what matters most is the strength or your roleplaying ability, not your awesome AC. Which skills you choose to employ and how you choose to employ them will matter much more than how many you've managed to max out. Our staff and DMs know what they should be looking for in a player, and it's the exceptional roleplayers that will find the most reward.
Open communication between staff and players.
Nothing makes players grow disenfranchised with a server faster than the belief that their voice is not being heard, and that their opinions do not matter. Well, they do matter: a server cannot exist without it's players. You are the most important members of the community, and keeping players involved with the server is a lesson that should never be forgotten.
