Anybody ever wondered what happened to dos and if all system resourses were commited to one program (that you are using: being the only one you are concerned about at the time) would be better. Why commit what you don't need. Are you all windows weenies or dos preppies?
What happened to DOS?

I use Linux primarily, but DOS totally sucked. No GUI! If you can't use a mouse with an OS, it has no place on a computer in this day and age.
If you really love DOS, use Debian from the command line for a living like I do.

Comparatively speaking, a sickening amount of system resources are dedicated to creating the UI and maintaining such things. If systems just had to mess with text and raw data we could have the universe mapped probably by now. Haha. That's most likely not true but still. We could "do" more but then we wouldn't have out easy point and click buttons or games as we know them.
