Do you think DA 3's protaganist will be from Ferelden?

that actually makes sense, thanks!
I also wondered where the 'Turnip' insult came from.
@brushyourteeth,
If Fereldeners are Turnips, and Riviani are Radishes.
Then what are the people of the Anderfels?
Or the Qunari? Or Kossith, whatever (I always imagined Qunari as some sort of candy with a tough outer shell, but a sweet filling.)

I think it would be amusing to have the DA3 protagonist being from Kirkwall, fleeing to Orlais after the annulment/uprising. Then the DA4 protagonist would be Orlesian, fleeing Orlais to (setting) in light of the DA3 ending.
Fleeing for everyone!
lol, this was what I was thinking
I kind of like the idea of being Ferelden though, it seems like all the great people were from Ferelden (Andraste was from Ferelden if I remember corectly)
but as long as we don't get an Orlesian accent, I'd be fine with being from Orlais too
Interesting idea Quinnzel! XD
Yes, Andraste was from Ferelden as well.
And one of the reasons I'm worried about playing an Orlesian is the accent, some of them are done well in the games. But I'm still worried about my character sounding like Isolde....
This, so much this. I'll be SO pissed off if they manage to mess up the accents...

The Anderfels were based on Germany, or Russia or something right?
But yeah, a chestnut sounds about right for them.
And to get back on topic:
@Ivrandra, yes the accents really need to be done right.
But not just the french accent the Orlesians are supposed to have, but the British ones as well (like someone mentioned earlier in the thread.) But all in all, I just hope that we get a like-able main character with a good voice actor.

I'm guessing the main character will be Ferelden: Ferelden has no accents whatsoever so that would be the most neurtral choice.

But yeah, I do like the Fereldeners, so I kind of hope we get one.
But I also think that playing as someone from the Free Marches, who has fled it because that's really the place the trouble with the mages and templars started, will make sense. (And they have a whole heap of different cultures there, so who knows what kind of accent we'll get

I'd like if we moved on from Fereldan characters (as much as I love the place), but at the same time, say if the new protagonist is Orlesian it would be nice if Bioware could find a way to make the voice fairly neutral. I mean, WHO IZZZ DIZZZ MANNN TEAGANNNNN is funny hearing it from an NPC, but actually having the protagonist sound like that would make me want to gouge out and swallow my eyeballs.
Well, I would still like to see my protagonist (if I did a good job in the character creation, that is.) so I would probably rip off my ears. But I agree with you, if we go to Orlais in this game then please, please, please Bioware, pick out some good voice actors who can pull of a neutral sounding, good Orlesian accent (like Leliana.) if they all sound like Isolde, then I...don't know what I will do, but it will be as annoying as that voice.

Well Nevarrans were bad-ass dragon hunters, and I definitely like Cassandra's voice, so I will be completely fine with that too.happy_daiz wrote...
I'd prefer the PC be from somewhere other than Orlais...maybe Nevarra, so he/she might sound like Cassandra Pentaghast. Aww, yeah.

Please, someone else in this thread tell me they understand the difference between a bad accent and a good one?

I think that would make the Kossith coconuts.... though no one would dare say it to their faces.
And Anders are.... ice cubes? I think that's a decently insulting stereotype.

Some of the British accents in Dragon Age were irritating as hell, and I'm British myself!

I'm pretty sure Cassandra's accent is German, or something similar.
What gave you that idea?
The actress is a Norfolk girl trying to create the illusion of an accent, but I can't say it's German. Neither is it French.
She pronounces certain syllables in a particular way, which gives the impression of an ethnic accent. But I'm not sure it's actually based on a real accent.<_<

It seems like I got that from something Mr. Gaider said once... there's also this entry in the DA wiki (if you take stock in such things):
"Nevarra shares some characteristics with Prussia. Nevarra expanded out of a federation of city states to become a powerful kingdom, similar to how Prussia expanded and became the strongest power among the German principalities and kingdoms during the 18th and 19th centuries. The conflict with Orlais over the mineral-rich Blasted Hills is similar to how France and Prussia fought over the region Alsace-Lorraine. Also the term "Prussian" has often been used, in and outside of Germany, to emphasize professionalism, aggressiveness and militarism, traits similar to those of Nevarra and the Pentaghast clan."
There's also the fact that, to me, she sounds flat-out like Tina, our foreign exchange student from Germany.
Though I really think you may be right -- plenty of the DA accents seem to be fudged together more to evoke the feeling of a culture rather than accurately represent it, which they do pretty well.
