I feel sorry for companies like Bioware and Dice*! Both of
those groups make fantastic games, only to be heavily criticized by their
massive fan base for breaking promises on their latest games (Battlefield 3
& Mass Effect 3).
I think we should all cut them some slack and focus our
anger at the real problem here.........Electronic Arts!
They are the ones that he the final says on how things work
out....not the developers!!
I truly believe that Bioware/Dice do listen to their fans
input about games, but EA don't!! They
are quiet happy to sit back counting your money from the games & DLC’s that
you have purchased, while letting Bioware and Dice take all the constructive & non constructive criticism/abuse about their
so-called finished games?
Having a friend who owns a small gaming development company
here in the UK, I have seen firsthand how companies like EA work, and trust me it’s
no pretty! They put a hell of a lot of pressure on developers with their
chopping and changes on how they want a game to work/run and how it should end.
It's not just about a few changes, it's more like thousands! With each change
has a deadline for completion before it goes to Alpha /Beta testing, even then
they have a deadline on fixing as many bugs before it goes out for general
release.
Battlefield is a prime example! For those who have played
it, will testify that it will have a patch released the same day as the game is
first released , Mass Effect is no different, given the original release date
coincided with EA’s other big game release Battlefield 3. Now someone at EA
must have banged there head or something and said “hold on, we can’t have two big game going out
at once, as it will affect our sales”. Hence the reason ME3 was put back a few
months, without any real explanation.
At the end of the day, EA and its share holders just want
your money irrespective if a game is finished or not, because they know deep
down, the developers are the ones that are on the main firing line for all the
flack they get spread over forums and other websites!
