Hey everyone, you may all know me as the crazy guy who has been ranting over the complete lack of technical support here (I stand by what I've said BTW) but I have just found the simple fix for the "Unable to load area" problem, I may sound like an idiot for not getting this right before but here it is.
Exit to dashboard, try it again.
Could not be easier right? So am I an idiot? Yes. But it's important to note that a lot of people have had this problem recently, and while I may be an idiot for not figuring it out, that just means Bioware as an entire company should have figured this out and helped people as soon as they posted the question.
So yes, I am an idiot, but then again, the freaking company who made the game hasn't helped anyone by sharing this simple fix either, so which is worse, me not figuring it out? Or the whole company not figuring it out (or not sharing it with anyone, which would be much worse)
I kept exiting to menu and retrying, but you need to go all the way to the dashboard.
Good luck guys, and help eachother out, because god knows EA/Bioware won't.

Thanks man. Worked for me, too. It's not just EA either. Lots of software companies are getting lazy on their support issues.

hmmm I still get this problem even when i do go all the way to my dashboard... it's kinda annoying i will restart my comp to see if it fixes it...

I'm having this problem when trying to travel from the Dalish Camp to the Brecilian Forest - every time I try to leave it throws this error and kicks me back to the main menu. I've tried changing my party, disabling all DLC and force-loading, putting all graphics options to their lowest settings, defragmenting the hard drive and nothing is working. I've exited the game multiple times, the PC has been rebooted several times since this first occurred and I've been off and completed multiple quests in other areas before coming back to try again, each time with the exact same result. The suggested fix above doesn't seem to work either. Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated as I can't progress any further in the game until this is sorted out....

i've been exiting and reloading and restarting and shutting down and loading and exiting and loading over and over.
i've never had this issue until i upgraded to 1.04 and tried to play the Golems and Witch hunt....
so just for clarification, your "Fix" is to exit the game and reload?
if so, its not all thats wrong... is their any other fixes you've heard of?

i'm having the same problem with Ethalis! I have just upgraded to 1.04 and tried to play the Golems but the "unable to load area" error pops up again and again when i try to import my character. i've exited to my desktop but this error instists! Any ideas???

Whoa, major cross-chatter here. Ya'll realize this is the Xbox support section of the forum right? Xboxes don't have a desktop, they have a dashboard. You know, that area the thing first boots into when you turn it on?

Old forum I guess but I want too add my experience aswell. played through the game once and thought I should play through the DLC.
Downloaded Warden's Keep and the Golem DLC ages ago. No problems what so ever.
Just recently I downloaded return to Osthagar.the Darkspawn DLC and Witch hunt after installing awaking and updated to latest patch ofcourse.
Cant load Ostagar area for the Ostagar DLC says like you people mentioned above cant load Area.
I have the PC so I dont know what too do.
I have exited the game and reloded saves nothing.
I guess I have too skip Ostagar on this run and hope it fixes in a new game.Hopefully this wont occur to an area I need to go to continue the game,

Was playing through the areas, on my way to the Gallows to save some mages, after the chantry destruction. Reached the gallows waypoint in the docks, gathered my party to venture forth, and "Cannot Load Area". Awesome. Repeated attempts to cross the waypoint resulted in the same error.
After reading the above fix, I bounced to the dashboard and restarted the game. Fought back to the waypoint and no error. Thanks for posting this.
