I have my idea on that since I'm a technical/project lead in software companies for more that 20 years and saw the gradual but inexorable changes in the software industry
Just that every one come clean with it (I know it's kind of utopian dream, since we are in a money driven world).
People most likely can/will forgive a mistake, but not a generic politically correct covering-up. (here again in our current world it is the rule & reality)
You know we are complaining because we still have feeling for BW and its achievements and I think most of the players want to have more games like DA and ME1 & 2 & 95% of ME3

Why so little defense on this transport beam to the Citidel?
Why did Habinger run away?
Why did I not confront Harbinger at all in ME3 when he was built up so much in ME2?
Where did my gear go after I got hit with the Reaper shot before beaming up to Citidel?
How did TIM get to the Citidel?
How did TIM control Shepard?
How did the Squad I was with on Earth make it back to the Normandy?
Who is this Star Child?
Who/Why/What is this Star Child?

Why did you give me a new important character (Star Child ) in the last 5 minutes with 14 lines of dialog to understand what the hell he was / did / means …. Etc…
Why did all the work I did to prepare (EMS, Paragon, Choices) have so little effect on the outcome?
Why did you want us to speculate Vs closing the story like ME2 closed out the Collector conflict?
Why 3 push button choices for the end?
Why did I shoot the Destruction tube to start it? Why would I walk into that and blow myself up?
………………………. The list is endless………..
Oh… 1 question - Who the #@$%$#% came up with this ending? Fire them all they ruined this game.

Yeah i don't know if it an obvious no, i strongly suspect an extended cut was pre-planned (much like you get specially extended edition movies) however they decidede to make it free for a limited time.

Honestly, Mass Effect is over at this point but for my trust going forward it's more important to me knowing whether they've lost it fundamentally or whether it was circumstances.

Inception only had one speculation but for the most part answered everyone's questions and horror films are supposed to be bleak or leave you hanging (but they usually give you strong evidence that everyone dies)

I kind of agree with this. I've always had that thought due to Mike Gambles tweet about 'if you only knew what we were planning' or something.
