Considering the vast number of possible endings i find it most likely that the next game will in fact happen in the past, or at the very least have only vague references to the characters, and events of this game.
Consider that In the ending sequence with Anora as queen she remarks how amazing it is that you defeated the blight with other nations barely becoming aware of it.
And on the subject of Morrigan becoming a super god bad guy bent on world domination........ Seriously, can i have some of whatever your smoking?
My EPIC theory of a major Dragon Age : Origins expansion pack

I may ramble a bit on this one, just to warn you all.
I would like to toss this into the ring: We don't actuallly know FOR CERTAIN that the Old Gods of Tevinter were anything more than very old (and thus very powerful) High Dragons. Maybe the Maker is the truth, in which case The Imperium was worshiping animals.
In fact, to be honest, if the uncorrupted versions of the Old Gods is some form of god, I'd have to be very disapointed. Killing a god should have been more complicated than hitting it with my sword, and peppering it with ballista bolts.
Of course, we don't know which of the Old Gods this Archdemon used to be. There is a list of the Old Gods names that is in Codex. There is a list of the previous Archdemons that scholars have labeled with the names from the Tevinter dragon pantheon. The is nothing, anywhere, that says which Old God this Archdemon is.
Er...the point of THAT was that while we know Dumat was considered the most powerful, we don't know how powerful this Archdemon was in comparison. Maybe we just offed the runt of the litter, so to speak, and the next time an Archdemon rises, it's going to be a heck of a lot harder.
Where was I going with this...oh yes! I had in fact considered the possibility that Morrigan wanted to use the child in the same way that Flemeth planned to use Morrigan (we assume; Morrigan could have been lying her ass off to the Warden), and this possbility is why my Human Noble Warrior turned her down, even though they were already lovers. After reflection I did in fact decided that it was unlikely. While it isn't completely impossible, it doesn't seem to fit within her personality to me. Of course, she was more than happy with the idea of the blood sacrifice, using the elves in the Alienage, and wiping out the Circle made her giggle, so anyone that comes down hard on her using the child for this purpose is practicing selective memory. When it comes to surviving, Morrigan would do anything. And she would not lose sleep.
Hm. I think I just talked myself back to point of believing she might want to body-swap with her baby afterall. Morrigan simply isn't a good girl.

The entire world won't be possible.. an expansion is never bigger than the main game.

one thing I DID notice, should there be any " post coronation" play that could work fairly universal: The Darkspawn did not completely vanish, they still formed smaller war parties, and even took to the seas. ( in my case ) all my Wardens survived " so far" and it's stated she' ( and liliana) rebuild the wardens, but then head off to hunt and investigate the Darkspawn.
So for post archdemon play there is plenty of room for fending off war parties, could even travel to islands " which may, or may not be part of ferelden, thus not having to touch much of the events layed out there." while moping up the trash there are other problems that can come to be.
The party could simply load who you have left, or reunite a few. The REALLY tough part I see is for the wardens that chose to sacrifice themselves...Resurrecting the PC in that may be too cheap, yet bringing in a " pinch hitter" wont really draw the connection players have with their warden.

This doesn't sounds like an 'epic' expansion to me at all. I'm sorry but I don't think you grasped the characters in the game at all and turning Morrigan into some kind of ultimate Evil is just ridiculous. If anything the child should be the PC in a sequel or expansion or somesuch. Or a very interesting NPC/Ally or a patented Bioware plot engine... but nothing as simple as you describe.

So your whole theory is based on the persumption that everybody chose to have a baby with Morrigan? No thank you, sounds like complete fail.
Either they make an expansion like Tales of Sword Coast from BG1 which adds to the current game or the expansion continues from the ending with different start based on what ending you had. Here is how it could work. Think of the expansion like the original game, six different starting areas but they all lead to the main "starting" area. (Ostagar)
So this is how I think it should work (Morrigan shouldnt even be in the expansion). There would be 5 different mini starting areas based on your ending (yes I know there are more than 5 different endings but several endings can start in the same area, you will see why.), then like the orginal game, all 5 start areas lead into the main starting area. This will be good because it will give incentive for people to finish the original game differently and it would make the player not feel obligated to do the original game in a particular way, like you want.
How I see it: The 5 areas, and yes I might have left an ending out or something but I am sure it could be folded into one of these areas.
1) You finish the game as king/queen - you would start the expansion in the Royal Palace, and depending on whether you had Anora or Alistair as king/queen or chose to be king yourself (not sure if this is possible - I have never tried), either way, you would have Alistair or Anora with you in the Palace. If you became king without either (if possible), the character saying their lines would be a stand in character like a king's advisor type. Story commences and whatever happens leads you to the main start area much like Ostagar.
2) You finish and take over as Grey Warden Commander - You naturally start in the new grey warden head quarters, with (if any) companion that may have decided to stay with you. If none did, that character is simply not there. Like on my mage, Zevran stayed with me and chose to help train the new wardens with me, so therefore Zevran would be there at the start with me. Once again whatever story commences (just like the origins) and you head to main start area.
3) You chose to go adventuring / chase after Morrigan etc, anything that made you adventure/not settle down - You start in a quiet little village in the mountains/forest for a rest whilst searching for Morrigan/adventuring and then said story starts and leads you to main start area. Obviously if you where searching for Morrigan, there would be dialogue options for it, if not - the options arent there. once again if you went away with a companion, they would be there at your side if not, they simply not there.
4) You chose the wilth and title options OR chose to continue serving the throne - you can RP that chosing to continue serve the throne, you where giving the estate that you get from chosing wealth, title anyway. Once again starting in this estate, story commences and leads to main start area.
5) The interesting one (left for last), you sacrifice yourself - well this is where I did some brain storming. But it was clear in the end, you start off in the fade (but you are dead - its your spirit trapped in the fade), and in the fade you meet 4 spirits and you soon discover that these 4 spirits are actually the previous 4 grey wardens who took the final blow on the 4 previous arch demons. You then discover that taking the final blow on the arch demon not only kills you but traps your soul in this part of the fade for eternity. Ofc being the hero of the game expansion, you decide that this is not acceptable and soon learn that to leave this phase will require you to kill some good spirit. The fact is that you are in a good place in the fade, not a manipulative evil place. So you have some hard choices to make and some evil demon who has snuck into this "heaven" is starting to manipulate you cleverly and you dont actually realise you have killed a good spirit until the deed is done. Your spirit is warped back into your body and your body restored by the magics where you claw your way out your grave and then moving you into the main start area. (Infact I was thinking your final rest place could be this main start area.
Anyway thats my thoughts for an expansion that works like ToB BG2. If it a TotC expansion then a new ally to recruit would be a good way to go, along with some new random areas like wardens keep etc.
My thoughts - sorry for the wall of text.

Oh, I hope so. Another treaty group would be sweet.Majspuffen wrote...
Hm, I have this crazy feeling that if we get an expansion, it'll be a big extra mission to the current story. Perhaps some other allies to use in the last battle.
Don't know how realistic the chances of that happening are, but it'd be cool. A new origin (preferably human) would be awesome as well, but that seems rather unlikely.

Not so. Whilst it's true to say we can't ever really *know* (the codex could be wrong) we are told that it's Urthemiel.DarkSpiral wrote...

Eventually the "Archdemon" entry gets updated with:
"Urthemiel was once the Tevinter god of beauty. In ancient times, he was worshiped by musicians, artists, and poets. The Feast of Urthemiel was the grandest celebration of the year, an event that lasted a full twelve days. Plays and entire symphonies were written in his honor. Now, he is a maddened husk of his former self, filled with nothing but a desire to destroy all life."
Bah, should have edited this into the above post. Too lazy, now.

Interesting Urthemiel is called a he, since high dragons are all female, does this mean the Old Gods are not really high dragons but something else that has assumed the form of a high dragon (using a form of magic like Flemeth, but more powerful)?

It could mean all manner of things. I agree that it's very interesting.
Was Urthemiel simply a High Dragon worshipped as a male deity? (I don't know if all the Old Gods were male or not, so I'm just going to stick to talking about Urthemiel. Dumat was male, too I remember)
Was Urthemiel in fact, a male deity/spirit "imprisoned" within the form of a High Dragon?
Was Urthemiel a *male* High Dragon? Was there once a time when High Dragons could not only be male, but sapient and intelligent, to boot? Was it just that the male of the species had the true brains?
Was Dragonkind magically altered to prevent the emergence of male High Dragons (or, rather, sapient/intelligent Dragons of either gender)? Is there some sort of Ganondorf/Gerudo thing going on?
At present, I think I'd prefer the latter. I like the idea that modern Dragonkind are the "dumbed down" descendants of a much more intelligent species. Maybe the "Old Gods" were the only survivors, and took to allowing mortalkind to worship them. Anything's possible, though.

That's an interesting idea, that mabye Dragon-kind is a much more limited and de-evolved version of their previous race (prehaps the Andraste High Dragon which seemed to have some direction over Kolgrim and the Reaver sect is an example of Draconic intelligence re-emerging).
Mabye this was what Flemeth and Morrigan were after, the restoration of the true Draconic spirit, interesting, nice idea, I like it :-)

With all the different endings, I have a feeling that a sequel or expansion will be set 20+ years afterward and with a new main PC.

The male dragons are the little guys. The big ones are females.
Perhaps the old gods are a whole different species of dragon?
There are references to Cults of Urthemiel popping up - which may indicate possible future directions. Just speculation, of course.
Also, I believe the ending says the PC's adventures are not over, which leads me to believe he/she will play a role in the continuing story. In the Morrigan baby case, many PCs would have a reason to look for her. If not, you can go adventuring with other party members. The only one that has a reason to stay home is Alistair's queen or mistress, but even she could have to travel for diplomatic reasons (or she's jealous and wants her lover's bastard kid destroyed, which would be somewhat ironic). Dunno, we'll have to see what Mr Gaider and the team cook up.....

I play devil's advocate a lot.
In case it wasn't already clear.
It is possible it's the error of the person that wrote the Codex entry. I mean the real person here, not the name of whatever in-game scholar is listed at the bottom of the entry. I don't WANT this to be true. But it might be. It could also be in-game male predjudice, reffering to the Old Gods as males when everyone that knows anything about dragons knows that High Dragons are females. Might be a leftover from the manner in which the Tevinter Imperium reffered to their gods. Or the Old Gods might be actual GODS and thus any discussion of their gender is as meaningless as discussing if a raindrop is a man or a woman.
@Ulicus: I'll go see re-read that entry now. It would certainly seem to infer that Urthemiel was our newest Archdemon. I do recall reading something along those lines. However, one of the points I was trying to make (forgive me if I was obscure, it was 4am when I wrote that post) is that the codex entries are almost universally written from the perspective of a scholar withing the game, and they might be wrong. It is a mistake to take that information as fact. It's FACT if Bioware comes out and says that the Archdemons are definetly the corrupted Old Gods and the Old Gods were more than just really old High Dragons. Until that happens, it's an accepted theory and nothing more.
I'll set aside devils advocate for a second and make it clear that I think the Old Gods weren't gods, just dragons that they Imperium venerated. I furthermore think it likely the High Dragons (the Old Gods being the paramount example of suck) are much more intelligent than your average lizard, though that opinion is colored by the fact that dragons are ALWAYS depicted as more than mere animals. I could easily be wrong about this point. And lastly, I think the Archdemons are in fact the seven Old Gods, corrupted by the darkspawn taint.

Is anyone else extremely upset everytime Morrigan dismisses the guardian on the urn quest and he "respects her wishes" which in turn denies you the player any true revelations about Morrigan. A little too neat for my tastes. Which makes me believe Morrigan is important for future DLC, expansions, or sequels.
