Should I use a Crossbow, short bow or long bow for Leliana, as a ranged archer rogue?

Cross bow has more damage, but slower firing rate right?
Or do I got a short bow?

I'm currently putting the majority of the points into Dex for her.. is this ok? Or should I put some in strenght for more damage?

Cross bow has strength requirements to wield. Don't even bother. Her strength should stop going up at 20, which is just enough for the best leather.

I always favoured the longbow, because of the greater range of the bow. Whenenver I specced her as a ranged attacker, I prefered to keep her as far away as possible from the fighting.

Having said that, however, whenever I could equip the bow you are given as a result of finishing her companion quest (I think it's called "Marjolaine's Recurve" or something) I always swapped that bow for whatever she was using. Marjolaine's Recurve is fantastic, and it comes with Rapid Aim.

unless im mistaken xbows are utterly broken and worthless right now. I hear they get nothing from dex with the dex bug and since dex is suposed to be 100% of their dmg.. well, theyre worthless

Since she is a bard and benefits across the board from a cunning focused build, I would go longbow and get lethality, then dump heavily in cunning with dex mixed in for attack.

The game is pro longbow, no shortbow or crossbow can match the highend longbows stats.

eg: Falon'Din's Reach: +2 Damage, Rapid Aim (-0.3 seconds)
Mage's Eye: +3% Ranged Critical Chance, +4 Attack
Marjolaine's Recurve: +3 Cunning, +3 Damage, Rapid Aim (-0.3 seconds), (Restriction: Leliana)
Far Song: +2 Damage, Rapid Aim (-0.3 seconds), +3% Ranged Critical Chance, +10 Critical/Backstab,
                         .+10 Attack

how ever due to the lack of att rating, a cunning build long bow archer has **** for hit rate even with some party buffs. as rogue it is almost always better to stack dex all the way and use shortbow, although u are just gonna use leliana there for lock picking anyway, so dont expect its dmg to pass 20% partywide.

What is Lethaliaty?

Where can i view those types of things in-game? I'm having trouble finding where I can check those stats for each of my party member..

What I mean is these things:

Warrior

Templar

Spirit healer

I can't find where I can view the ones that I *** haven't learned *** [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]

This thread  provides some very good information on archery and how to best optimize your stats and talents for a solid build. Lethality is one of the third tier rogue specific talents. It allows you to use your cunning for damage calculation instead of strength. Lethality also includes a hefty amount of +crit. As another poster mentioned, a cunning focused build will never have the perfect accuracy of a pure dex build, but with a modest pumping of dex and sustainables like dueling and song of courage, a cunning archer will be adequately accurate in my experience. Equipment also really helps close this gap.

If you want the best possible damage focused build andif you use the dex hotfix posted on this site, a shortbow with full dex investment will outperform everything else.  This is because when fixed with the hotfix, shortbows use dex for 100% of their damage modifier, rather than splitting 50/50 between str and dex as longbows do.   The much higher stats of most longbows will alleviate this difference for the first part of the game, but as time goes on and you invest more in dex, even a mediocre shortbow will outdamage Far Song.

Having said that, you will lose out on the cunning scaling of your bard songs and have a more difficult time opening locks/disabling traps.  There is even more argument in favor of this if the archer is your pc, as you get better coercion bonuses.  It's a tradeoff, but both routes are very viable and good.
