i will stick with the ending we crrently have... maybe its not perfect, but its better than this one.

What about element zero and FTL travel? What about a lot of WTF crap?

you can actually dont mind them (if you dont read the codex, those are just names that arent explained in game).  I didnt red any codex on the whole trilogy, i was missing something important about the plot because i didnt know what element zero is, or whats FTL is?  no... actually they are just there, to explain why some people can be somekind of jedi and hows that your ship can travel through space.

But taking Dark Energy into the main plot... you are going to screw it.

I don't think this was the "original" intended idea. I think that this was one of the possibilities they had in mind when they were writing ME3.

I think the original idea (the one Karpyshyn had in mind during ME1) was that the Reapers really were "unknowable"

I would have liked that as well. That's why I always will get the best feeling from playing ME1 over the other two games.

People would have still complained... but less. I still vote for NO EXPLANATION. I really want the Reapers to stay a mystery. IT IS BEYOND OUR COMPREHENSION!

Seconded.

The same here.

Mass effect fields do not make any sense, if you have a little, very little understanding about how physics works irl.
Did you see what I did there? i can do it again if you want.

You are comparing the physics of science fiction to reality. Let that sink in for a moment.

The dark energy plot worked and made sense, they alluded to in the previous games and scrapped it for this train wreck.

Like i said... they are not the main plot of the entire series. If you dont read the codex, you dont know how the hell it works.  They are just there to explain why your ships fly, why there are some people with jedi powers and why you can do a lot of magical things in the future. The series are not centered in them and are not explained in game.

But, taking a theory like dark energy into the main plot. Even if its science fiction (science fiction has to make sense in a certain way...or at least be logical. thats why its called SCIENCE fiction, and not fiction only -.-), you are goint to screw it up.

The truth is we don't know how things would have been explained or rationalized. But I can say from my experience that it always hurts a product if the original writer is replaced.

Kinda weird EA didn't stop BW from ditching this idea.... Just imagine the profit they could of made out of this dark energy thing with DLC and sequels lol

Agreed!  The combat mechanics of the 2nd and 3rd game were far superior, but as far as the story and characters, Mass Effect 1 dominates the other two.  The relationships built in the first game are what fueled the entire series.

Well, for me, there a lot of things in the Mass Effect series make no sense from a scientific perspective. Same thing with fantasy worlds.

But I don't care. I love em anyway.

So, I don't care what they do with "dark energy" as long as it makes for a good story.

I don't know that I would have liked the "dark energy" stuff any better.

And it's really hard to speculate - if it were a "dark energy" ending, does that mean we'd have a lot of weird/odd/bad "dark energy" related things happening throughout the 3rd game? It might be cool then, if the ending is actually tying these dire-but-seemingly-unrelated things together at the end. But then the base game is being modified a whole lot to introduce "dark energy", and whether that stuff makes the base game better/worse/etc, who knows?

On the other hand, if they just wiped the last 5 minutes and replaced it with "dark energy", I don't see much of a difference, except that the ending according to the article looks to be a choice between:
-Kill the Reapers and hope we can stop it on our own
-Join the Reapers, everyone's horifically processed.

...and while a "Kill the Reapers and have faith in ourselves" option would certainly be more palatable than the current 3 options for many, the choice between those 2 things isn't really much of a choice to begin with. The first one is the only one that would make any sense - the Reapers have clearly been unsuccessful despite having a lot of time (so why join a bunch of failures?). You've just proven that you can unite the galaxy (Tuchanka, Rannoch, etc), so it's not like humans would be fighting the dark energy on their own - you'd have a multitude of nations with a variety of strengths working together.

Of course, a simple "dark energy" ending probably isn't as conducive to IT, and IT is kinda cool in it's own right (though if IT is what happened, it's rather poorly communicated to the player - a little *too* subtle imo).

Just curious what you think would make a good ending.  I'm not being a smart ass or anything, and I am not defending the ending we got.  I like to hear what kind of endings people actually wanted/expected.

It puts an interesting spin on the reapers. That would have been a brutal ending too,
choosing to be processed into a reaper.I like the concept curious how it would have played out.

Why all the IT hate? I know some IT-posters are annoying as hell, but still :)

I heard that the filename for the model for Starchild was named "Harbingerchild" or something. It was probably from any of the IT-youtube vids or something, and it could of course be fake.

I'm ambivalent with the current ending, and probably will be very satisfied with the extended DLC. Idk, something like a badass space battle would've been cool, and a scene where my LI sacrifices herself to save me, and if I had none, then I would have to die in order to do something. The cliche stuff would've been fine, minus the happy ending where everyone lives and has babies.

To be honest, the only speculation I'd like is to speculate the reasoning the Reapers had for their actions.

The whole anti-matter and yada yada is just silly, I don't see how it can be prevented which cannot be seen, nor interacted with

And then we got DA2, and now we have ME3....

Yo Dawg, to ensure you don't destroy the galaxy with dark energy we created devices that create so much dark energy that you can travel across the galaxy in hours without fuel, so you don't destroy the galaxy with dark energy!

Well, that was obviously the best solution according to the race that invented the reapers in the dark energy theory. And where have you read that Reapers create dark energy?

EDIT: And I'm still not sure what you meant by what you wrote. Are you sure you got all facts straight?

http://masseffect.wi...ki/Element_Zero

Eezo is used to release dark energy to creat mass effect fields. Reapers use massive eezo cores to create increadibly powerfull fields.

Dark energy and mass effect fields are the core of all major technologies thruout the galaxy and that is thanks to the Reapers seeding that technology to ensure they develop along that path.  So they help to propagate the use of the very thing that is destroying the galaxy in some slim chance some race will have the fix for it when harvested and turned into a Reaper.

As for evolution and hive minds others mentioned. I guess Soverign was lying or just unclear?
"We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything. "

"My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation - independent, free of all weakness. You cannot grasp the nature of our existence. "

All I remember of Dark Energy being dangerous is Talis loaylty mission in ME2. Maybe the idea then was that in ME3 it would be further explained and expanded on but oh well.

Also I agree wholeheartedly with this "This still doesn't change the main sticking point of fans: all of the recruitment, all of the alliances, all of the sacrifices, were essentially moot because they essentially were inconsequential to the resolution."

Oh, you.

It was a tiny IT comment within my larger post (the bulk of which had nothing to do with IT).

I'm not advocating for IT, but I'm acknowledging it as a possibility. And generally my responses in any thread relating to the endings look at the current ending at face-value, and then again through IT. I get that people are polarized over the endings, and I assure you, I'm not trying to rock-the-boat or anything by bringing it up. However, in any case, I apologize if it seemed as though I was trying to push the IT agenda.

Oh, I see how that could be a plot hole. I guess sometimes when you make an omelet you have to break some eggs. Either way still better than what we currently have imo.

And that last part, I agree, they could technically have made small variations to all endings that varied depending on which/how many important decisions you made, wouldn't have been that hard I think. But still they didn't. It's like a whole different team wrote the ending.

Oh right, THEY DID. That team is called Casey Hudson and Mac Walters...

Victory/negotiated settlement through force of arms. We won't know the details because it's only an outline not a complete plot.

ME3 lacked the cohesiveness of its predecessors... if the ME3 story would have been done right, the dark energy ending could have had made more sense...

your decisions during the whole course of the game could have easily made sense with a proper epilogue to the "galaxy unified + no human reap" option for the dark energy ending...

i can't think of how a renegade ending would work
