I realize the VFX editor is really powerful, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I just want a simple burning fireplace without having to spend hours trying to get it to look right. If we had any source levels from the OC it would take 5 minutes to load the level and export the fireplace effect.

Yes, I followed the wiki tutorial. For my 2 hours of work I now have a horrible-looking fire effect. That's 2 hours that I could have been writing quests or encounters or other actual gameplay.

I realize there is a learning curve with the toolset. I'm fine with that. But with NWN and NWN 2 we at least had the source assets that we could look at to figure out how to do things. I never had to tweak a particle effect except for special cases. Certainly not for something as common as a fireplace. I am pretty unhappy right now about this business of not releasing the source art.
