I've been trying to edit the ingame .utc files, to change the appearance and abilities of certain bosses, however whenever i try to save them the toolset freezes up and crashes, does anyone know a workaround for this? I've tried using a K-GFF editor, but it is out of date and corrupts the file.

Trust me, we don't put any bugs in just for fun, because they are not fun. We try to put the fun into the games instead. 
With version 1.01 of the toolset, you have access to these creatures in the toolset directly, so you don't have to do messy editing of the .utc file with the GFF Editor. You can just open the up in the toolset, make the changes you want, and then export them from the toolset. Its a much cleaner and more user friendly process.
In house, we do very little editing with the GFF editor, it is used more frequently as a "viewer". I have filed a bug about the crash, but you should be able to do what you want without using the gff editor now anyway.
