Well also obviously, a Rogue shouldn't be able to beat a massive armored warrior in a straight up fight either.

Aw I can't wait to try that on next play through
Oh and its a straight match of skill versus power, a duelist in my case versus a walking metal heap, realistically Logain shouldn't get a point of damage on the rogue though it might take the rogue a few hours to wear down the defense.

3) Select Dog as your champion. Priceless
You're really high-balling it with that $4k price tag... try $1000.

I'd like to see this mystical $1000 Serious Gaming Rig of yours. And in the description of your rig the words "I already have" don't count.

Just saw the video on Youtube after browsing this thread. That scene with the dog is priceless.
I also don't see how they would allow Shale to fight Loghain. But maybe that was because he himself was willing, so nobody objected.
Everyone else is pretty much fine. It's obvious that though there are some rules, such single combats are not restricted to humans or warriors only. Using potions and other accessories seemed a bit unfair, though, so I did not resort to them. I also didn't use Blood Magic, because, well, it would be something to cast Blood Wound in front of the Grand Cleric.
As for the tactics, well, warriors may probably have a hard time with Loghain. I can see how rogues can do much better. Mages can simply own him - he has crappy resistances and, in most cases, can't even get past a simple Glyph of Repulsion, let alone mind-affecting spells. Arcane Warriors can probably beat Loghain without resorting to attacking magic, but it would be much more efficient to use some good spells. That's what I did, and he couldn't even touch me.

No one would, of course, because Dragon Age is very weak in this aspect. I mean, the PC can go around casting Blood Magic spells in front of templars, and no one would say anything. No only Wynne doesn't have anything to say to the PC amount him/her being a blood mage (that alone is kinda hard to swallow), she herself can be made one, which is ridiculous. The PC can cast spells wearing massive armor and no one even would bother to ask how the hell he/she does that - in a world where the only arcane warriors are, well, the PC and, possibly, Gaxkang (also two companions, if you decide to teach them).
So, I didn't use Blood Magic in that fight merely for RP reasons.
Yes, but there's also the whole gameplay-vs-'realism' aspect. I appreciate it's not Dragonage, but Prototype has something similer-you leap off a building and land next to a soldier and he doesn't bat an eye (or at least connect the dots and open fire while screaming for help).blackwolf1981 wrote...

I agree. Especially considering how powerful Blood magic is, there should be some serious consequences for it's use. Wynn should be out, and using at Landsmeet itself should be game over. It would be even cooler if blood magic left some sort of mark on your character that grew the more times you used it....making it more likely that folks would notice.

The first time I beat Loghain was hilarious, actually. Since he refused to fight my dog and I didn't want to be cheesy and use Wynne, I tried Alistair. Loghain pwned him completely - they've got similar skill sets for obvious reasons, but Loghain is a Champion and kept knocking Alistair on his arse, while being a Templar wasn't much good against him. So after a couple of reloads, I switched to my main.
Since she was an archer, this necessitated a lot of kiting - not that cheap a tactic, IMHO, when your character is so squishy. It's also not possible to use Ranger summons in that fight, so her specialisation wasn't doing me any good.
After I'd done a few rounds of Dirty Fighting/run laps of the throne room, Loghain's AI was actually smart enough to figure out my plan, whereupon he took out a bow and started pinging away at me. I must have stared at the screen in utter disbelief for a good sixty seconds before I remembered to hit him with Arrow of Slaying. I thought that if I stayed on the other side of the room he'd eventually swap tactics, but no. He just stood there at shot at me while I threw every archer talent in the book at him.
Needless to say, while Loghain would have pounded my ranger to a pulp toe-to-toe, he was no match for her at a distance :-).

Now I'm curious, since I never have doggie in my party, can someone tell me what happens if you choose it as your champion in the Landsmeet? Or can the dog not even enter that area?
