It's probably a stupid question, but how do you unlock things like new color patterns, skin tone and others like that? I've gotten a few characters to level 20 and never unlocked the ability to do so. Nor have I ever unlocked them in a Spectre or Veteran Pack.
So what's up? How do you unlock these things?
Dumb question about unlocking things.

You unlock them by getting the character card multiple times through the packs. If you want them for Human characters, then you can get customization/12k XP cards through the Recruit Packs.

What about for more rare charactes such as Krogan/Batarians/Asari? I'm just wondering what to do/buy(ingame ofcourse) so I can get these options. Seems strange you have to unlock color options in the first place.

Those are uncommon or rares, so you need veteran or spectre packs in order to get those character cards.
