Tonight when I got home I downloaded the update for ME3 but everytime it tries to connect to the EA servers my console locks up.

I played around with it a bit and discovered a way to make it work. Here is how:

Put the disc in and start the game. Download the update. DO NOT HIT START AFTER THE UPDATE COMPLETES.

After you have finished downloading the update, unplug your internet from the back of the console so that your xbox disconnects you from xbox live.

Note:
Do not sign out of your profile as this will boot you back to the title screen when you try to sign back in and you will freeze again.

Now hit start to go to the Mass Effect 3 main menu. The menu that says:

New Game
Load Game
Multiplayer
Downloadable Content
Extras

Once you are there, reconnect your internet and sign into xbox live.

After you are signed back in, hit the "Y" button to connect to the EA servers.

This should work. (At least it did for me and one of my friends.)

WARNING:
Do not dashboard out of Mass Effect afterwards unless you are finished playing for the Evening or unless you wish to do the entire process over again.

Hope this helps.

You can also help those not smart enough to check the 360 Tech forums (people like  me :( ) by bumping this:

This actually worked for me. Thanks.
To clarify, my problem was not actually crashing when connecting to EA servers, it was the fact the my game would just keep loading forever when the 'checking downloadable content' message showed up. Still, I just tried your solution and it worked.

I did a very similar thing (I removed the cable before even turning the xbox on, but yes I plugged it back in and logged on to XBL + EA servers on the main menu) and it worked. Have went back to the dashboard and then back into ME3 successfully 3 times with no crashes after doing this. So yeah, bump!

My game was crashing on the Connecting to EA servers screen, had to turn off by pressing the power button on the console.

Yes it worked even for us people who get the endless looping "Checking for Downloadable Content"

If you already have patch, just unplug or disconnect the internet, start ME3, and at menu reconnect the internet, now sign in and it should go.

I'm not sure but I think this problem came from the April 17, 2012 balance update. My console seems to freeze whenever i carry any of the weapons that were modified by it. If that balance update did cause this problem then it needs to be erased.

I tried it and I was finally able to use the main screen. Unfortunately once I got stuck again on the loading screen for the multiplayer gameplay. Totally blows.

Worked for me. Did not do a fresh install of DLC like you suggested, just left it as is. Disconnected the internet while on the "press start" screen, then pressed start, got the main menu to load, then connected to XBL and it worked.

I previously had it set to not automatically log-in to origin, I changed that setting and now it seems to work just fine without disconnecting from XBL, so I suggest people make sure they are set to log-in to origin automatically (easily changed in the options menu)
