Ok so I installed and started playing DA:O. After a
while, I re-started my laptop -- with the DVD still inside -- and
Windows (Vista, SP3) wouldn't load -- because it was trying to read from
the DVD drive (why, I have no idea, its not a boot cd!!) during bootup. So I left the drive
open and re-booted, and windows started normally. Unfortunately, now my
drive simply refuses to recognize my DA:O disc. It doesn't even give an
error when I put it into the drive (nor does it eject the disc/ tell me that
the disc can't be read/ etc) -- it simply goes on trying to read the disc,
and nothing happens. Can't start the game... :(

Any suggestions/ insights/ etc. would be greatly appreciated...!

Oh, and my DVD drive can still read all other discs (CD Roms and DVDs
both)... though (strangely) - its started showing a weird icon of a man
(looks like some GTA-type character) for around 3-4 different
DVDs when I load them into the drive (egs: KoToR II, Rise of Legends
and a few others -- all show the same icon in the My Computer
screen)... Dunno if the two problems are related, but they started at
the same time - i.e. after comp restart.

Other info which might be useful:
I installed Patch 1.01b before my
first playthrough, game was running fine.
I was also in the process of downloading the DLCs
when I exited the game and re-started my comp (which then led the
events described above).
My comp meets the recommended specs, and was
running the game smoothly till this DVD - not - being - recognized -
issue started...

Help please :(

If you own the game legit, you can try and find a 'no CD' exe. Try www.gamecopyworld.com

PS - if this breaks a rule, please delete it asap. I don't mean any harm, it is my understanding that these exe's are perfectly legal if you buy the game in retail.

You can also use your CD key with EAdownload Manager and download the Digital version, which needs no DVD in the drive.

I had a similar problem with my DVD drive.Optiarc DVD RW AD-7240S.

The computer wouldn't boot with the disc in the drive. Later, the drive started disappearing from My Computer after playing DA. After the problem happened again last night, I rebooted the computer to solve the problem.

But when the computer tried to reboot and listed all the SATA devices, the description of the DVD drive in the list was corrupted, replaced by a bunch of garbage. The computer wouldn't even boot up.

Tried unplugging for several minutes, but no good. Oddly, things seemed to work fine the next morning after leaving it unplugged.
