Ask Morrigan her opinion on what to do next in Lothering and she suggests going straight to the heart of the matter.  Specifically Logain's heart, with a very pointy dagger.  You also get compelling reasons why an attempt at assassination isn't viable at that time ... and then not so long after, should you choose to be merciful, you recruit an assassin.

I wish there had been an option to convince Zev to double cross Logain; after all, at that point the only people who know the guy's failed are the ones present, so why not try to send hm back like he's succeeded, only to try and kill Logain instead?  Even should you decide you couldn't trust him to do it, I'm surprised it's not something you can even discuss once Zevran is more loyal, even if only for him to give reasons why he couldn't do it.

I think it would've made a neat side-quest, sneaking into the palace, and been the perfect opportunity to confront Logain without Ferelden's entire court watching the exchange.  I'd've liked the opportunity to understand his motives better, or to try and convince him to unite forces against the Blight without getting the Chavaliers involved.  Or tried to kill him, depending on my PC. ^_^

It would have been excellent fodder for Logain to use against the PC at the landsmeet, too.

Logain's lack of screen time was one of the things I felt was slightly lacking in the game; browsing the forums, I feel like I need to have read the books to even begin to understand how his fear of Orlais sends him into a power-crazy maddness.

You can actually tell Zevran to go and assassinate Loghain.

He refuses based on the fact that the Crows would kill him regardless because he failed killing you.
