Either you judge Destroy by the presumption that Shepard and the Geth will die, or you judge Destroy with the metagamed knowledge that Shepard lives and the Geth then, probably lived too. You can't just cherry pick the most immoral combination of factors to base your points on.

Wrong. There is no reason to assume that the geth will survive. None at all, even after viewing the ending scenes. However, you do know that Shepard survives after the fact. So if you make a metagaming choice, you make it based on the knowledge that the geth will be dead and Shepard will live. Anything else is just self-deception.

From a roleplaying view you are correct. Shepard can't assume he'll survive. But unfortunately it's metagaming knowledge that affects how people feel about the (im)balance of the endings, just as it's metagaming knowledge that affects how people feel about the Paragon/Renegade (im)balance.

I don't think the destroy ending is supposed to fix the problem of synthetics wiping out all organics.

Then why is the Catalyst helping me?

This is the biggest problem with the catalyst's reasoning. It has no reason to be giving you these options in the first place unless it's all a deception, which it's apparently not.

Some people argue that Edi didn't die (and walks out of the Normandy after destroy) because she wasn't reaper tech, that means that the geth didn't die either since they are not reaper tech either! Th starchild's warnings was completely pointless in that case.

That is only correct if you believe Catalyst. With the little Shepard knows and the tiny bits information Spacebrat gives us, it's certainly excusable if someone wonders if a single word Spacebrat (admitted leader of the Reapers who are known to use deception and indoctrination to further their goals) says is true or not. I would argue that it probably requires meta-gaming to trust Spacebrat in the first place.

But the Geth have reaper code yes?

I didn't trust a word the kid said. In my end. The Geth are alive and well. Everyone on the citadel is brown bread.

Also the Reapers all get turned into ice cream and Shepard is made emperor of space. With a cake.

This is a very common misconception. The Catalyst isn't "giving you" any options. The Crucible itself is given you options, all the Catalyst is doing is telling you what those options are. All it is is the user's manual.
