I don't love the methodology. But, you think after DA2, Bioware would be a little more sensitive on the issue of fetch quests.

I have to admit though, the main quests are alot more juicy then they were in the previous 2. Not to mention there is a lot more replay value concerning the weapons and companions you bring to them. Still I really want to land on Dekunna.

Definitely..the plot lines here are really great and feel like a culmination of everything we've done coming together, BUT imo the best missions are
1/ Suicide Mission
2/ Virmire

Your data are informative, but one thing ME3 did have significantly more of was squad mate interaction on the Normandy and Citadel. In ME2 you might have your intro conv, then something new after Loyalty, but that was about it. I'm 3 they move around, talk to each other, and generally have more to say. That made up somewhat for the smaller number of sidequests for me.

Yup I remember this complaint from ME2 and I'm surprised they actually made it so people move around and interact, I enjoyed it alot but that falls more under interaction than sidequests.

I don't mind that there are fewer side quests in ME3 to be honest, it makes sense that when most of the galaxy is burning you're occupied by more important enterprises. However, it would have been nicer for the few side quests we get to have actually meant something; to be worthwhile. Also I don't see why people are obsessing over the sidequests in the original ME, they were usually just recycled over and over or were rather short.

I'd rather half as many quests in me3 if it meant less fetch and more substance.

The graphic is misleading:

ME3's side quests (like the Rachni quest, the optional quests that influence the results of the main plot quests but aren't part of them etc.) are all much bigger in ME3 than in both ME1 and ME2. The only exceptions are DLC quests.

And ME2's recruiting quests never felt like they were part of the main plot, so that doesn't count.

Like fetch quests.

You mean the plot?

That's... sad, really. They took the easy way out to deliver content for ME3.

This is one of the things I've complained about - there are a lot of places where ME3 failed that have been swept under the rug due the the ending outcry. The ending wasn't great, but it was about all you can expect when the game STARTS with a magical off switch that's just handed to you before the game proper even begins.

I liked the N7 missions on the multiplayer maps. I wish they were longer... and it was nice to know why you are sent there to protect the location in MP.

Plus, to some extent, the main plot missions are longer and more involved in ME3. The majority of ME2s main quests, other than Horizon/collector ship/base, are the recruitment and loyalty missions, which were tremendously good but could be short to medium length. Samara and Thane's loyalty missions involve no combat at all, Grunt's is short, etc. in contrast, the main quests on Sur'kesh/Tuchanka and Rannoch are quite involved, even split up into (skippable, but I'd still consider "main") quests.

I still miss the feeling of bigness from exploring in the Mako or on multiple hubworlds.

I wonder if the numbers from Mass Effect 1 and 2 include DLC quests.  It's likely that we are  lacking in quests of substance in Mass Effect 3 because they want to hammer us with a bunch of paid DLC.

ME1 side quests are mostly 'raid the same 4 rooms over and over again'.
So, the N7 quests in ME3 are fine. There's even a comparable number of such side quests (raid random structure) in ME2.

ME3 fetch quests replace the ME2 resource collection (which is fine by me).

That leaves us with a great number of rather varied side quests in ME2 that aren't matched in ME1 or ME3. Well, yeah, ME2 is a really great game :)

Already knew it, I don't understand why there is less than ME2.
Sure ME1 may be unreasonable but they could at least improve on ME2, I'm disappointed to say the less I wanted more side missionS where you land on planets like in ME2.

Maybe, but the paid DLC for ME2 was pretty damn good. LotSB was one of the best stories I have ever played.

Another nail in ME3's coffin.

Even little side-quests like in ME2 where you get the ship log off the broken up hulk before it collapses down the cliff were good... atmospheric and a nice change of pace. ME3 felt too linear and too one-paced

I had a blast evading the reapers every time I failed a scan for my fetch quests.
A few escapes were so close I did a dance and cussed out Harbinger.

I recently replayed 3... the fetch quests became incredibly annoying to do. It really felt immersion and even urgency-breaking. Playing galactic deliveryShep is no more urgent than hopping down on a planet to get a random bit of Cerberus data, blow up a Blue Suns merc base, or grab that prothean sphere.

ME2 had pacing issues due to lack of main questline meat, but it was forgiveable because it was fun and memorable. So, I'd be okay with a handful of misc. fetch quests along with some single or multi-planet side quests.

Way too many planet scanning fetch quests in ME3. ME2 at least had you landing on the world and taking some enemies out.

I wouldn't mind the fetch quests if most of them didn't simply play out by showing me a single repeated stock image declaring that I've found [insert artifact name here].

I really enjoyed the Krogan poetry, but the library of Asha? The Pillars of Strength? The Hesperia-Period statue?
I didn't even get to SEE them!

Doesn't matter, they were in the cargo hold and that is all you need to know.

I was under the distinct impression that ME2 was ca 50 hours while ME1+3 were ca 30 hours. Am I right or wrong?
