It's not a plothole, you need to play arrival.

Corrected for accuracy :P Femshep > Sheploo!

Anyway, while shep is a spectre, dont forget that she's also firstly a N7 alliance operative.. She wasn't ever taken out of the alliance, the citadel council simply gave her extra authority.

Also, the best way to arrest a spectre is to ask her to turn herself in.
Just like the best way to get a gun from a grammathon cleric is to ask for it. lol.

Yes but Shepard was just doing his job as a Spectre. And why turn yourself in to the Alliance. That's like me blowing up Sydney and turning myself in to the Chinese.

It's like blowing up sydney, and turning yourself over to the chinese, with yourself being a chinese soldier.

Oh, and in that scenario, no one else cares for the aussies. No england, no america, no commonwealth.

But Shepard was a Spectre he should turn himself over to the Council. That is more relevent.

Basically my point is that Shepard was not working for the Alliance he was doing what was in the Galaxy's best interest as he is supposed to do as a Spectre. If there is any doubt over his judgement the Council should be the one to decide. Also the Alliance set up the Kenson's operation so the blame is on them not Shepard. The Sydney example just confused the issue i'll delete it. I meant that you need to turn yourself into the relevent authority

BioWare is also not above retconning so they simply stuck with it. Plain and simple explanation.

But... artistic integrity!

Hey, you brought up syndey and chinese. I'm just clarifying your metaporric stuff.

Point is that first and foremost, shep's a human, she's a systems alliance soldier, and is thus under thier jurisdiction. Not anyone else's.

Also. i sense a troll thread here.

Shepard considers her/him self alliance above all else so that's why s/he abides by alliance rules.

If you simply want to be angry at BW and find 'plot holes' wherever, you most certainly will.

Actually, if you didn't play Arrival then Shepard didn't blow up the relay.  The 103rd Marine Corps did, and you lose 50 war assets.  So Arrival doesn't really explain anything.

I think it is a good game overall but  they put so much emphasis on Spectres in ME1 I just wish they stuck to their own lore. Not that they're the only studio which contradicts themselves.

The Sydney, Chinese thing was just of the top of my head (I could have easily replaced it with any city or country). I just meant that Shepard was handing himself over to an irrelevent authority. I was not analysing international politics or the likelyhood of the Chinese attacking Sydney (which they are very unlikley to do). I mean if the Chinese nuke anyone it will be the US but even that is unlikely.

Also I'm not trying to troll I'm just replying to peoples opinions with my own.

So.. if you didn't play Arrival, why was Shep on earth?

And that doesn't change anything about what I said. It's not a plothole. There are plenty of plotholes to pick apart, that isn't one of them.

And i'm just saying that a) it wasnt politics and 2) isn't the whole point of the thread asking for opinions? I sense quite a bit of hostility there.

The point of your comparison was to say that the systems alliance had no stake in the matter, my point was to say that they had quite a bit of stake in it, even with shep's spectre status, as spectre or not, Shep is still an alliance soldier.

Dont forget, that in ME2, Shep can also disavow spectre status, so it's possible that in arrival, she wouldnt be a spectre. But in all scenarios, Arrival played or not played, Shep will always be an Alliance soldier.

Because shepard actually cares about the political situation and how the blowback with the batarians would affect the alliance's military readiness. She knows the reapers are coming, and the Alliance simply cannot affort to be fighting a war with the batarians. So she turned herself in to defuse tensions and show the batarians that the alliance is willing to take responsibility for their own. This averted a war, and saved human lives that could then go on to fight the reapers.

But all Shepard did was press a button the Alliance set up the whole thing. They were planning to do it even before Shepard got involved. So why do the Batarians care so much about Shepard they should be pissed at the Alliance regardless.

He's a Spectre they should blame the Council. And the Alliance was planning on destroyng the system anyway so why are they blaming Shepard.

Shepard is human. The batarians hate humans and they have a tendency to blame the alliance for just about anything they can get away with. Killing 300,000 batarian civilians and destroying a mass relay is a PRIME excuse for the hegemony to go full out war. It's just an excuse to get revenge for horning in on 'their' prime real estate. It doesn't matter who blew up the relay; all the batarians care about is that a human did it. thus, the alliance is to blame, and oh hey maybe we should glass a few of their planets and destroy a relay, maybe the charon relay, just to show them how it feels like!

But that is my point.

Bioware makes so many choices irrlevent.

It should have been an Earth trial if you were not a Spectre but a Council  trial if you were

But arresting Shepard should not make the Batarians less angry because all he did was do what the Alliance was going to do on its own anyway if its people had not been indoctrinated.
